The Transportation Policy Agency (Baketrans) of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) predicts that people's mobility during Christmas and New Year (Nataru) 2022-2023 will reach 22.4% of Indonesia's population or equivalent of 60.6 million people. This is also in line with Traveloka's internal data which shows that users' year-end travel interest continues to increase in both domestic and international destinations. Traveloka recorded that towards the end of 2022, in December 2022 there was an increase in transactions for land transportation users of 70% compared to the beginning of 2022. In addition, we also saw an increase in flight bookings of 11% in December 2022 for domestic destinations compared to last month as well as a 6-fold increase for international destinations in the year-end holiday period compared to last year.
Traveloka also observes that there is an increasing interest in a number of customers’ favorite domestic destinations in big cities such as Bali, Medan, Surabaya, Makassar, and Jakarta. As for favorite international destinations, there are Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. The soaring tourism industry has also boosted customers’ interest in outdoor activities such as tourist attractions which is proven from the increase in bookings for Traveloka Xperience tourist attraction products, which rose by up to 30% in December ahead of the year-end holidays compared to last month.
Furthermore, the staycation trend in welcoming year-end holiday moments remains a popular choice for customers, as evidenced by an increase of up to 20% in interest in booking accommodation in Jakarta in the period December 2022 compared to the previous year. In addition, Traveloka sees that the trend of booking travel needs for transportation, accommodation, and tourist attractions is increasing toward the end of the year. Traveloka's internal data found that customer behavior has changed with customers having a tendency to book travel needs with a short-booking window.
