Shaping the future as a bridge between Japan and Southeast Asia’s travel industries

Traveloka, an all-in-one travel booking platform offering hotels, flights, activities, airport transfers, car rentals, and more, co-hosted an industry seminar titled “Unlock Asia! A New Gateway with Traveloka and Temairazu” with Temairazu, Inc., the provider of the “TEMAIRAZU” reservation management system for accommodation providers. The event took place on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at JETRO Tokyo Headquarters.

The seminar opened with remarks from Mr. Christian Nugroho, Representative Director of Traveloka Japan, who introduced Traveloka’s mission as a bridge between Japan and Southeast Asia. He stated, “Founded in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2013, Traveloka was born from a simple question: why is it so difficult to book travel in Southeast Asia. With the aim of connecting Japanese accommodations with travelers from Southeast Asia and beyond, we have decided to launch our services in Japan. Leveraging over 13 years of experience in the region, we aspire to be the ideal partner for Japan’s travel industry as experts who deeply understand the Southeast Asian market.”

In the keynote session that followed, Mr. Kosuke Hiramatsu, Senior Director at JETRO Jakarta, took the stage to share insights about the Indonesian market. He explained, ”Backed by the largest population in Southeast Asia and abundant natural resources, Indonesia continues to experience economic growth. In particular, the country is expected to benefit from a ‘demographic bonus,’ with a high proportion of working-age population projected to continue until around 2040. It is a market that attracts strong interest not only from Indonesian companies but also from foreign businesses.”

In particular, regarding the overseas expansion of Japanese companies, he noted, ”In recent years, Indonesia has seen a notable increase in the entry of Japanese companies into the consumer goods and services sectors, driven by expanding domestic demand and the resulting economic growth. Centered around Jakarta, Japanese brands have established a strong presence in industries, including food and beverage, retail, and healthcare, and enjoy a strong presence across a wide range of fields.”

On the other hand, from the perspective of supporting foreign companies entering the Japanese market, he emphasized, ”The number of travelers visiting Japan from Indonesia has also continued to grow, and as of the end of May 2025, it is progressing at a pace exceeding that of the previous year. There is strong interest in uniquely Japanese attractions such as cherry blossoms, Japanese cuisine, and snow. Against this backdrop, the entry of Indonesian companies into the Japanese market, with an eye toward further expanding inbound demand, is also drawing attention.”

After that, Mr. Satoshi Kawashima, Country Market Manager of Traveloka Japan K.K., gave an overview of Traveloka and introduced “TERA,” the management platform for accommodation providers. He presented strategies for inventory and sales management that enable properties to approach the Asian market more flexibly and strategically.

Additionally, Mr. Tōu Tsumuro, First Group Leader at Temairazu, Inc., explained the strengths of the TEMAIRAZU series, which supports the global expansion of domestic accommodations, as well as its collaboration with Traveloka.

”Since March 2024, the number of domestic overnight guests has exceeded 3 million, and with the expansion of inbound demand, the way accommodation operations are managed has undergone significant changes. To welcome travelers from a wide range of countries and regions, targeted OTA strategies tailored to specific areas are increasingly necessary, along with systems that enable properties to centrally manage everything from information registration to plan creation. TEMAIRAZU provides a site controller solution that allows accommodation providers to centrally manage inventory, rates, and plans across multiple booking platforms. It offers a framework for unified management of property information registration and plan creation. In addition, the introduction of real-time pricing functions and a multilingual support system helps prevent human error and miscommunication while improving operational efficiency. Notably, TEMAIRAZU is the only site controller in Japan that is equipped with multilingual capabilities.”

This event served as an opportunity to forge new connections with travelers from Southeast Asia and to help accommodation facilities evolve into a more global booking environment. Traveloka will continue to support the enhancement of the Japanese tourism and hospitality industry's international competitiveness through collaboration with its partner companies.
