North House - Auberge la chouette / Hôtel Automatisé

Overall it was an okay stay. I felt like I was just paying for the location as the hotel didn’t itself didn’t feel like it was worth the amount I was spending per night. The room was okay but climbing three flights of stairs every time got old fast. I liked the idea of staying in a historic building but the room itself wasn’t really special in any way. In terms of cleanliness I was expecting better. I found hairs on the throw pillow and on the shower curtain that weren't mine. I also stayed there for five nights and the room didn’t get cleaned at any point.

Perfect location!! The only drawback to our entire stay was the circular staircase. We had packed for 10 days including a cruise and our heavy bags we a challenge to navigate the stairs. Otherwise, everything was perfect.

Unfortunately this was not one of our better accommodations. We are both elderly with health issues so being on a third floor walk up was very difficult. My fault I guess for not asking. They did replace the broken coffee maker and got us the remote we needed for the tv. Satelite reception kept getting stuck. They did bring clean towels on the first morning but no staff returned for the next 3 mornings. The shower needs to be fixed. We had a good bed and air conditioning was appreciated It certainly was convenient to the downtown and the citadel.

Excellent and quiet location with easy check-in. Room pictures are deceiving tho as this room had no window view for the price and this should be stated on the site.

La estadía nos decepcionó mucho. A pesar de estar bien ubicado, el albergue no está en buenas condiciones. La propiedad es vieja y requiere mantenimiento. Además, las habitaciones son chicas y con poca iluminación, excepto las que dan al frente. Es un albergue automático, así que todo (absolutamente todo) se maneja por teléfono. Por último, la relación precio calidad es realmente mala. Definitivamente no lo recomiendo.

I should have checked the reviews or requested a room on the first or second floor. 3 curling sets of stairs was a bit difficult when you are nearly 80

The Auberge is well located, a 15 min walk from the train station, and it was easy to walk around within the walls of the old city. The staff was very polite and helpful, the room was clean and the bed comfortable. I would stay here again!

Pros: -decent location -large, clean, airy room -good cupboards and closet for clothes -Fairly quiet location -Convenient luggage storage Cons: -Read the fine print, NO housekeeping service. If you want anything, you have to request it. We requested more coffee cups and creamers to replenish our supply and instead we got creamers and towels. -Communication was through text, but the texts were not answered promptly -We requested an extended checkout time three different times using three different communication methods. We got no response until the day before our request and were denied an extended check-out -the room needs a location to easily charge devices which is the norm for a lot of hotels now. We had to look for an outlet to use. -small bathroom with very little counter space to place toiletries -no towel racks to hang wet towels and the hook behind the door was broken. -TV remote and TV were very difficult to manage despite the instructions. Older guests who are not tech savvy would struggle with only using streaming services. -Narrow windy staircase is difficult to manage with larger suitcase.

Room and bathroom were clean. I stayed 2 nights. Note: there are no elevators which is a challenge if you have mobility issues or if your luggage is heavy. Service: 3/5 - this is only an automated service. No one to assist with urgent or general questions right away. Entering the passcode for the front door was a challenge as the numbers were faded on part of the key pad. Ambiance: 5/5 - being an older building meant street noises were at a minimal.

It’s impossible get in touch with someone at hotel. Send multiple message but no reply. There is no reception and only allow to connect via virtually. I wish there is someone to talk to if there is emergency.

Great location, easy to walk around the Old Quebec City area. The building is nice, seems like a lot of the original architecture has been maintained. The rooms were sizable and beds comfortable. Definitely recommend if you're looking for something that can make you feel a bit like a local.

Stay was good, and facilities were clean But the staircase was not elderly friendly.

We enjoyed our stay at North House Auberge la Chouette. It’s conveniently located just before the old fort entrance of Old Quebec City and near many restaurants to choose from. Despite travelling with a 90 year old… she was still able to go up the swirling stairs without difficulty. We would go back for sure!

We felt it was a fire death waiting to happen! No fire doors in the hallway. We were in room 316 with no window to open for fresh air and only an emergency door which we were unable to open even if there was a fire. The wiring was Jerry rigged all over the room, looked very unsafe. During our four day stay the bed was not made once and only one change of towels after we saw someone in the hallway with them. The old towels were left in the room. There were no drawers for clothing…..I could go on. We felt absolutely ripped off. It felt like a prison room, dark and dingy. The only thing good was the location. If we could get our money back it would be great!!

Location was perfect. Walking distance to everything; lots of restaurants cafe near by. Located within the walls of Old Québec, the iconic Fairmont Le Château Frontenac was 4 to 5 blocks away. the best location to discover Quebec City on a budget. 2 blocks from Quebec Parliament; Touring Quebec Parliament was free and lunch was amazing at the Parliament Restaurant.

Self management. Easy to stay.

My first time with virtual service, it's different, but I think I'll like it. I like the price.

Well located and the bed is comfortable. But there is a bad smell (sweat? Urine?) and it doesn’t look as good as the photos. I would find something else next time I need to stat in Quebec City for a conference
