Royal Oak Hotel

Lovely old pub, friendly staff and customers and great food. Rooms were up a back stairwell that was a bit unkept but the room itself, whilst being basic was clean and quite new. I enjoyed my stay and would return

Lovely stay at this hotel, room very clean and breakfast was extremely tasty!

Perfect location in the centre of town and near to all the amenities (as well as the start and end of our walk - the main reason for going). Staff friendly, bedroom quiet, clean and comfortable and an excellent breakfast thrown in. We also had an evening meal here which again was very good and a reasonable price. Would come again

The Royal Oak has a wonderful location in a quiet village setting and visitors can expect a relaxing change of pace. The countryside around is spectacular for England and the people are without exception friendly and helpful. I'm perhaps biased because my family lived in Gt Ayton in the early 19th Century and although I was born in North Yorkshire today, as a visiting southerner it's very much my home ground. This was my third or fourth visit and I thoroughly recommend The Royal Oak to tourists, visitors,hikers, bikers or anyone who appreciates a splendid local traditional pub-hotel with food to match.

had the Cook Room -- as it was warm had the windows open which proved a bit noisy - barrels being unloaded early morning. Staff from kitchen a little rowdy. Back entrance for night time could do with a little spruce up - a bit scruffy. Not ideal when staying alone - a bit dark. Overall a nice stay. Parking wasn't too bad. Good food and breakfast. Room had everything needed.

A lovely village pub. I didn’t have a dinner, however, the breakfast, which was included in the room rate, was really nice, with freshly made coffee, which was good. The rooms are above the pub, my window faced the outdoor patio but I didn’t find it noisy. The room was large with a comfy double bed, and a nice sofa style chair for one. Everything was clean, and I’m really fussy about that. The bathroom was large as well, it was spotless, with an electric shower (in all honesty it is not the strongest shower I’ve ever had, but more then good enough, and this wouldn’t put me off booking again). All the staff I spoken to was lovely and helpful. It’s only 20 minutes drive to Saltburn, totally doable even if you just want to spend an hour there. I have nothing negative to say about my stay. Thank you!

Friendly people. Food was very average. Burger was very dry!

Lovely clean room, bathroom a good size, think we might have had the largest room. Bed was soft and comfy. Breakfast was delicious, cooked perfectly. Pub is in a good position in the village with walks from the doorstep and near great TI office. Pub meals are not overpriced.

breakfasts were good, rooms require updating, particularly the bathroom. Most staff were friendly and helpful, however, one of the staff shouldn’t be in the hospitality business. surly and rude! Overall would probably stay elsewhere if visiting again.

Good food free parking unfortunately breakfast doesn’t start till 730 so I didn’t get to try that

Brilliant stay

Excellent double room, spacious bathroom, nice firm bed and super breakfast - all good!

The service was slow in the bar, we waited 15minutes to order coffees. It seemed disjointed at the table, drinks had to be ordered from one person, but they weren’t allowed to take food orders. There was then a fair wait before someone took our food orders. The dining chair was smeared with food, resulting in us having to clean the seat / our hands, before we could eat. The bedroom carpet looked like it could do with a clean / freshen up, as could the shelves.

Lovely traditional old pub, with eclectic furniture. The rooms were basic and clean but with really good size single beds as brother are always happy to share a room. Have to say the shower was really poor in our room and it took nearly 5 mins to come hot. The star of the stay was the food, Jacob the chef is clearly a very talented cook. The Brisket Croquettes are to die for as was my Rump steak which was perfectly cooked as ordered. The down side was breakfast in a very dark and soleless room, coffee was the best either had been stewing for some time I suspect. Also big difference in the excellent evening staff and the not so happy breakfast staff. Still good value overall in a lovely village.

I think I paid twice, once when booking accommodation in Australia and again on-site. Off-street parking was an inconvenience

Really good rural pub. Friendly staff good facilities and helpful when needed. Good value
