Brief stay to visit Hopetown and Shildon. Accommodation of a very good standard. Comfortable bed, better facilities than found in chain hotels, clean and tidy -looks recently refurbished. Very well situated for public transport/shops/culture.

These people must URGENTLY update their contact details. Neither we nor Hotels.com could contact them. We had Hotels.com chasing alternative accommodation for us before we discovered a text from them from a number not listed anywhere. BUT once we were in contact (after a 2 hour wait in the pub opposite) they came to our help within 5 minutes, gave us complimentary drinks, and the room was lovely, comfortable and quiet, we slept well! Apologies for the delay to this feedback because updating the contact details is urgent if it hasn't been done already

We stayed in room 3 and the decor is beautiful, the bed really comfortable , i would say medium /firm. Ensuite fully equipped with toiletries , towels etc. They have put in alot of care so that your needs are met. Cleanliness is excellent. I would stay again if i needed to stop over in darlington. There was no breakfast included, however there are lots of places close buy to get breakfast.

The host, Chris, greeted us and gave us grneral information about the place. The roomwas spacious, recently renovated. Chris said there are plans to renovate the rooms on the first floor and then serve food in the pub on the first floor.
Those with mobility challenges might find it hard to climb up and down the narrow
staircase.
The windows open, which is nice for fresh air, but we had to prop it open to keep the sash up.
There was karaoke in the bar, which some might enjoy hearing, others might not.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay!

Stayed here on a whim, travel a lot with work and try to pick small independent places where I can, usually with a pub. Unfortunately, the pub was shut as it was a Monday, but I just crossed the road and went there for food and drinks so no problem.
The room was beautiful, bright, very clean and very spacious. It looked newly decorated and done very tastefully, felt like I was staying in a stately home, not the local boozer! I mentioned to some locals I was working with that I was staying here and they didn’t know there were rooms above the pub… so definitely need to shout about it!
Quality teas, coffees etc and generously stocked. A bit of a novelty and very welcomed when you spend so much time in hotels.
Next time I’m in Darlo I’ll be staying here, so comfortable and conveniently located.

Surprised by joy!
I was looking for a bargain for a business trip & found it at the Boot & Shoe - in Spades!
A pretty ordinary, traditional facade fronts an open but still traditional bar area.
It's definitely a pub with rooms - & what rooms! My double was large, with views out onto the market square. It had easy chairs, coffee maker plus a kettle, if preferred. It has bebefitted from a lot of investment. Landlird Chowed me to the room personally & explained the TV's operation in detail. He could have saved his breath - I never got a chance to watch it!
I went down to the bar for for a well-earned drink. I'm from Wiltshire & was pleasantly gobsmacked by the price of its beer, especially the "own label" brew. Try it; it redefins value for money.
Turns out Thursday is Open Mic & Karaoke night. The Open Mike session was interesting, with several veterans displaying their skills on guitar. The singing was ok, too.
I was thinking about popping out for a meal when the karaoke started. Seems like most of those present were regulars. The singing was sometimes v good, often hilarious & all warmly applauded.
It became a really fab evening. I've never been to Darlington before but I was made to feel very welcome. The meal went by the board, I was enjoying myself so much.
Would I go again? In a heartbeat.
What I would ask, is: Chris, could you find a karaoke track of Tumbling Dice that's in my key, for next time? It will help improve my performance.
Cheers, The Lodger 😁

The rooms have recently been done up, to a good standard. Nice and helpful landlord. Great that the rooms had a separate entrance from the pub.
