The Gillygate

All the staff were lovely, made us feel very welcome. Nothing was too much for them, the breakfast was very tasty. Would definitely recommend and return in the future.

Travel for business, average 3 hotel night stays a week, this was reasonable price for location £125 for Tuesday night. Stayed in WBC room, good sized and comfortable. Booked on the premises Breakfast is served 7.30-9:30 according to website, however got there and told only served 9-9:30 to account for walk ins from 10am! Luckily the pub has nothing on Tuesday night, so was advised of an 11pm close, however the extremely loud music continued on after this, making it an extremely restless night for an early start for work the next day. Thankfully, as soon as i contacted the bar manager/landlady the music was turned off. The smart tv signal isnt very good so channels kept cutting out, but if you are yravelling for pleasure the real advantage is not needing the TV as the walking distance location to everything would cater for being out of the room more. Wouldn't return if travelling for business, but would consider for leisure due to location and helpfullness/friendliness of staff!

We can't fault this hotel. Staff are amazing, very helpful with recommendations on places to see. Next visit to York I'll be booking here. Parking isn't the easiest to find, we had to ring the hotel. The member of staff gave brilliant directions and even offered to stand on the street if needed.

Very good for the price for the area. Very large room, comfortable clean bed and great drink facilities in room. Wonderful and helpful staff. Great relaxing pub atmosphere. Small car park which is a bonus. Relaxed breakfast atmosphere. Definitely be staying here again.

Excellent stay, pub with rooms and free parking! Convenient walking distance from city centre and Grand Opera House Theatre.. Couldn't stay for breakfast as had to dash but it smelt good! Would stay again.

The staff were lovely generally with the exception of the person I met on the last day who was downright hostile . They did a sandwich for me to take away in day one which was lovey. The WiFi didn’t work which was disappointing. I was advised to collect a router in my return but I feel this should have been addressed. I wasn’t great about staying in a room used for pets but it is what it is . The room was ok, I slept well but the shower was very slow which may not be in the control of the owners .

Great location and price. Staff were all welcoming and friendly. The room was like a furnace and it did take me a moment or two to figure how to turn the heating down.

Had a wonderful stay at Gillygate. Fantastic location, near train station and main shopping area. The room was lovely, everything was explained, about heating and other facilities. The breakfast was also lovely, cooked fresh to order. Great quality too. The staff super friendly. Would definitely stay there again

We were in one of the rooms in a converted building at the back of the pub. And it was lovely. Beautifully decorated, comfy bed, lovely shower room. It was delightful. Staff were really helpful, and breakfast was fabulous. We will certainly return.

Great staff lovely breakfast. Nice room, very warm and cosy but noisey because we were next to the beer cellar with a constant hum. Would love to stay again but in a different room.

Room OK, room 8, quiet in annex at rear of building. Comfortable bed and good night's sleep. Reception friendly, but bar closed when I returned, despite being told it would be open. Mediocre breakfast, unfriendly service. Only rubbish instant coffee and no vegetarian option for full breakfast. Walk-ins have between 09:00 and 12:00, whilst hotel guests only have between 09:00 and 09:30. I presume this is to facilitate the unreasonably early checkout time of 10:00. Poor value for what I paid, but not worth a formal complaint. I wouldn't stay here again.

Delicious breakfast, cooked exceptionally. Parking very safe. Very pleasant staff,eager to help. Very clean room.

An excellent location and quiet due to the rooms being behind the pub. Excellent full breakfast.
