The member of staff from the pub, who showed us to our room (second floor - no lift - 35 stairs to climb) was a bit casual and not particularly bothered about making us feel like valued customers.
There was an unused double mattress leaning against a wall in the bedroom and I had to ask to have it removed - she seemed surprised that I was so fussy about it, and said she'd get it removed. A few minutes later, young Kiera arrived at our door, having been "sent to remove the mattress" - well, she couldn't move it on her own, it was clearly a two-person task so we had to help her move it ourselves. I think the mattress was intended to be put on the bed in our room... it looked like a new mattress and the one already on our bed was very lumpy and uncomfortable. Pity they hadn't put it on before we arrived.
No remote with the TV, so Keira was once again sent to find a remote from one of the other rooms. She was really great, running up and down the stairs half a dozen times to get us some milk and to find a way to get us a TV picture (there was no aerial in the room). She worked hard to get things right.
There were no major issues - really just sloppy housekeeping standards which meant little things had to be fixed. Eventually things were put right and we were OK.
Location is right next to the station but, surprisingly, the noise is not a problem. Cars and lorries passing on the road were louder.
Very basic but budget-priced, as you'd expect it to be.
