Located from 5-10 mins. walk from Essen Hbf. Very quiet and staff is helpful. Free one glass of beer or coke is available at the time of check-in.
If you want to go shopping, go walk for 10 mins. and then you'll reach Limbecker Platz. There's REWE (supermarket) and you can grab some German sweets for gifts. :)

Room was quiet. Shower good and hot. Hotel manager was great. Not far from Central Train Station. Only issue is there are no bars close and not many restaurants within a 10 minute walk but if you walked 10-15 minutes there were a fair few options

The staff were very friendly. The hotel is clean, but I found it basic in terms of facilities, breakfast and decor. Cold tiled floors; bizarre electrics - lots of exposed cables and extension cables; bed far too soft; and a very basic breakfast. The staff are cool, so full marks to them. Easy walk to station and centre.

A short walk from Essen train station, the hotel is reasonable for the price. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a good size, with good heating and air-conditioning unit, a kettle with tea and coffee, a complimentary bottle of water. My room overlooked the car park at the back of the hotel so it was nice and peaceful, facing away from the busy road. The room wasn't spotless, but it was clean enough. There were dirty water marks on the wall and the radiator in the bathroom. The mug also had dried spots of coffee from the previous person, so I had to clean this myself before using it.

It was, overall, a good bargain.
However, I was disturbed by the cleaning staff 45 minutes too early, and the staff at breakfast promised to bring me coffee but apparently forgot it.

Nice place for the price. Very quiet. Themed rooms.
Tea & coffee are "included" in room but you get 2 instant sachets and they don't replace them.
Every time they clean the room they move the shower head to the bottom and turn it to face the wall - this is annoying! Plus the shower head is a bit poor anyway.
There was no light switch reachable from bed, otherwise a nice place.
Nice double bed but strangely a single duvet.
Check-in was good and easy, so was check-out.

I booked at the Art Hotel for a conference at Messe Essen in July. I arrived by train from the airport and could walk from the train station to the hotel, no need for a taxi! It is close to a pedestrian area with tons of shops, restaurants, metro/bus/train and grocery store. My room was HUGE and so comfortable. If you travel in the summer though, there is no AC in the room but they provide a fan in the room for those hot days! If I come back to Essen, I will stay there again for sure.

Service and stay was very good. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Bed was comfortable and I slept well. Only reasons I made it a 4 overall: overhead light bulbs blew out in room after first night and was left without main lighting for remaining nights. Made it work with bedside lighting, but it was dark at night. Also, first room reeked of smoke and had to switch to alternate room. Had to hold breath when walking from elevator to my room due to strong smoke smell.

Rather tall over 6'7" , so bed and room weren't great, sleep not great. It wasn't close to the city, and the rate was good. Other than that, moderate in every other way.
