The comfort of the bedding and the hotel staff was excellent. For the amount of guests shared bathrooms were never an issue. Halls were hot during record heat week, but rooms stayed cool with the A/C units. Staff offered us a ride one hot morning when we had our longest morning walk of the trip. Very walkable and near the Kyoto Tower. A great traditional Japanese place to stay.

Pasamos 2 días en este riokan y la experiencia fue increíble especialmente de Tanaka el chico de la recepción, extremadamente amable y aunq no hay lujos el lugar tiene muy buena ubicación. 100% recomendable, económico y cerca de estación Kyoto

The Ryokan was very clean and the owner was very friendly and it is near Kyoto station. However the room was on the 3rd floor and we had to climb 2 flights of rather narrow stairs. Also, there was no on-suite bath. But the most disturbing thing was that the walls were thin and you could hear people in the next room talking and/or snoring..

Washing area was on the hallway and there wasnt hot water offered when it was cold in the December. The room was very out dated.. it was close to the station but there were many more other options around that area that could be better than here

We stayed in the annex which is just across the street from the main hotel. Our room was basic - 6 tatamis, 2 futons and a tv but it suited our needs. The toilet was on the same floor as our room and always clean while the shower was shared and located on the first floor but always clean as well. The location was convenient, just a 5 min walk from Kyoto station and across a family mart. We enjoyed our stay!

The Ryokan itself smelled of dog as the owner lets their dog roam around. I booked to stay here for a Ryokan experience however my room was actually in a different apartment building a block or two away. The room was someones apartment and was quiet clean another benefit was I had a personal bathroom and kitchen facilities. However no wifi and I had to go back to the main Ryokan to access the internet.

Before reading this, you should be aware that a ryokan is a traditional Japanese inn. They are NOT hotels. I only stayed there because I got stuck in Kyoto overnight when my train was cancelled. It's basically a person's house who speaks very limited English (and I quote "boy bathroom down a stair"), although the latter wasn't expected. There are two shower rooms, one for men and the other for women. I would advise against a bath since you use the same water as everyone else. The showers are fine though. Light sleepers will have trouble. The "beds" were futons on the floor (as in the mattress part of a futon couch). I can't speak for the other rooms, but my futon had a lot of hair on it. I poked it several times and was relieved to find no bedbugs. The walls are extremely thin too, so you can hear anyone walking on the second floor and anyone snoring in the other rooms. Comfortingly like home, with the same build-up of dust on the picture rail, and CSI could build an episode analysing the splatter by the door handle, but a simple & fine place really. In a good place & the nice lady who guards the door of her home gave me a coffee sweet as I left, which is more than those grimly spotless 3x & 4x hotels do.

The room was small but comfortable, as a very old building it has some very out of date features so you could certainly not call it modern in any way, however we booked this hotel to get a taste of traditional style Japan and that is the experience we had. We enjoyed it very much and if you are looking for that authentic world war era Japan experience this place is perfect for a couple of days.
