Dogo Onsen Funaya Was a wonderful place to stay. Great staff at the hotel to assist you in any way. Excellent onsen on the grounds, which includes a sauna. Close to shopping, restaurants, and a public onsen. Our family had a great time!

Our 5-night stay at Dogo Onsen Funaya was nice and comfortable. The staff was extremely courteous and professional. Our suite was nice, clean and comfortable. The public bath was well maintained, clean and enjoyable. The Japanese and Western style breakfasts were delicious; however, the service was sometimes slow and lacked server attention to details ( i.e. drink refills and removal of empty dishes). Otherwise, the overall experience at Dogo Onsen Funaya is excellent. I would recommend Dogo Onsen Funaya to my friends and look forward to staying here in the future.

Great place to enjoy the Beppu Onsen experience - walking distance from all the Hells. Easy to reach the classic Dogo onsen - just walk there in your hotel robes!
The facilities occasionally show their age but much of it is modernized and everything is very well maintained.
Highly recommended.

I picked this hotel for "Private Onsen (hot spring) with the room". I thought it would be wonderful because we are shy Americans to share the bath with strangers... but it was a regular size bath tab (made with Hinoki wood which was nice but there were some dark stains). The time we can fill hot spring was limited and the water flow was so slow that the temperature of the water became too low when the tab was filled and there was no way to heat water. We are very disappointed and nobody actually enjoyed "Private Onsen". It might be OK if it was a summer time.
Room was spacious but unnecessary for guests of two. I reserved two rooms for 5 adults but we all could fitted in one room.
I felt that I paid too much for the rooms.

An attendant was assigned to our room. She was very courteous and helpful. We appreciated the extras such as tea and snacks when we arrived, English newspaper in the morning and a snack in the evening.

The location is good just next to the famous shopping street.
Like the traditional onsen resort inside the town centre.
There is inner garden with river but I didn't visit due to the heavy rain (pity).
The main entrance of the hotel isn't on the main road, visitor can locate the temple just opposite the hotel firstly

My husband and I go to Japanese onsen resorts once a year to relax but had never tried one in Shikoku. This place is easy to get to from Matsuyama airport or station and the tiny train you have to use to get there is absolutely charming. We had a great stay. The staff was great, the food was great too (could have eaten a little more for diner). The bath could have been better, because this onsen is located in the city we can hear cars/trucks passing by when using the outside bath which reduces the relaxation factor by a great deal. I would still recommend this hotel for a stay in Matsuyama.

The hotel was within easy walking distance of the tram station at Dogo Onsen. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, as were many people around Matsuyama. We had chosen a Japanese style room, which was large and comfortable, resulting in a very good night's sleep. Little Things, such as the tea on arrival and late night snacks left in your room were a nice touch. The hotel Onsen was quiet, well kept and very relaxing.
The following morning, breakfast was great. Plenty of food and drinks brought to your table, including a surprisingly good and very creamy scrambled eggs in an omelet.
There are a few cosmetic improvements that could be made, but overall the hotel is very comfortable and good value, when compared to other onsen hotels. The location is good, the food good and it's very friendly. I would and will definitely return.

We stayed for 3 japanese western style rooms with our friends, and all of us "WOW" when we entered our rooms. They are spacious, luxurious, modern with contemporary design. The staff are nice, helpful & smart. The hotel Japanese garden is another surprise where you can dine or have tea by the river.
Location is also great, just 3 mins walk along the Main Street to the tram station and the clock, 5 mins walk to the landmark Dogo traditional onsen. I will come back again during the colourful fall season.
