This stay was an incredible experience. From the moment you check-in, the staff goes above and beyond to make your stay exceed all expectations. Little touches like late night in-room snacks, private breakfasts, and very thoughtful going away gifts made this stay very memorable. It’s such a unique experience. We stayed in the Kashiwa Mochi room with open air bath, and it was the perfect blend of traditional ryokan with luxury touches. Felt like our own private home. I would highly recommend this property, well worth the cost

We really enjoyed our stay at Nazuna Kyoto Gosho. The place is in a nice and quite neighborhood and has a very traditional Japanese feel to it. You're welcomed with a nice welcome drink with a very cute candy. They also provide a lot of gifts for you to take making it feel very welcoming. It was a nice stay overall.

Stay was ok but it is weird when they provide gifts for posting a review. We did not post a review before we left so we did not receive a gift. Instead I purchased the candy that they sell as a Christmas gift for my GF. The candy never arrived and they ignore my emails. Not the end of the world but it was almost $100 so it is frustrating to be ignored (on top of not receiving the gift) It was the most expensive hotel stay I have ever purchased. Room was nice - outdoor tub etc. Food was just OK. Prepared by a 20 something year old girl with no culinary training - which was odd but tasted fine. In hindsight I would have rather booked a nice restaurant and foregone this meal. Breakfast was pretty good. Not ,memorable but fine. I wouldn't stay here again based on the value.

Let me start by saying that the staff were very polite, accommodating, and kind. Our issue is predominantly regarding the poor value for money and inaccurate hotels.com listing. We are a couple on our honeymoon in Japan. We booked the only room available because we wanted to stay at this hotel given the unique machiya atmosphere. But the moment we walked into our room at Nazuna Kyoto Gosho, we were disappointed. The room was dark, poorly designed/furnished, dusty, and there was a very irritating and constant noise from a bathroom fan driving me crazy within a few minutes. Moreover, the hotels.com listing indicated there was a private outdoor bath (not true) and free breakfast (not true). The room had very abrasive overhead lighting and the lamps in the hotels.com photos had been removed. And the tv was in the entry foyer but there was nowhere to sit in that room rendering the tv useless. We were very upset, so the hotel staff switched us into a different room that was more acceptable. We appreciated the staff working with us to resolve the disappointment of the first room. (But even the nicer rooms had weird design flaws like no towel racks in the bathroom). Regardless, there is no universe in which this hotel merits $600-700 per night (i.e. same price range as Four Seasons Kyoto). I regret splurging on this hotel. Pros: great location with easy access to transit. Lots of great Izakayas nearby. Quieter, less touristy area.

My wife and I stayed three nights at Nazuna Kyoto Gosho for our last stop in Japan. The overall experience was wonderful and the staff could not have been more polite and helpful with our every need. Room-well appointed and had everything we needed for our stay. Great spa like bathroom, nice bed and a sitting area. While it felt traditionally Japanese, it had all the modern conveniences we were used to. Food-the food was wonderful and cooked sukiyaki style in front of you for every meal. We only had dinner there one night which was a great experience but glad we had a chance to explore other restaurants We did eat breakfast there every morning and while it is not a traditional western style breakfast it was fun to try something a little different—-grilled steak or fish, grilled vegetables, rice and miso. Our only complaint with the stay would be the in room massages. After days of walking around Tokyo, Mt Fuji and Kyoto we wanted a little relaxation and decided to book an in room massage. They were not massages at all but lighting pressing on your back covered in a blanket and towels for 1 hours. My wife and I were both a little irritated as it felt like a waisted hour when time is precious. I would recommend finding a massage studio outside of the hotel to anyone who really wants this service. Side note….we did stumble upon a little restaurant/wine bar called Chrome a block away. If you get a chance, go!!! Amazing food and wine!!

The building and room were an incredible mix of old and new. The service was amazing. The food for breakfast was great. The staff went above and beyond when they noticed our stay included my wife's birthday. We're already planning out return trip to Kyoto and Nazuna Kyoto Gosho.

Really enjoyed our time here. Staff was incredible! Room was beautiful and breakfast was not only delicious, it was an experience. It was so relaxing, and far enough from the hustle and bustle but close enough to venture out. It was the best way to end our Japan trip. Thank you everyone at Nazuno, we will stay here again!

We were lucky to get the first room beside hotel entrance. This is a modern ryokan that comes with breakfast. Hotel opened only 3 years ago and has only 7 rooms. There was ample space for us to open our 20" luggage. Bathroom provides full amenities including Pola toiletries and comes with a standing shower and a private onsen. A travel adapter was provided although both sides of the headboard already has USB sockets. There's a dining room which provides unlimited Japanese snacks, ice cream, tea, coffee and beer (Premium Suntory Malt)!! Breakfast is served at 7:30, 8:30 or 9:30 daily with a choice of fish or Wagyu beef pre-ordered the day before. It's the full traditional Japanese breakfast with rice and soup. The beef is grilled on the spot according to your preferred doneness. Service was detailed as the waitress took the trouble to remember our individual preferences from the day before. Every staff speaks some English which is rare for a ryokan. They were friendly, responsive and very helpful. One of them gave us suggestions on what we could do and offered to make reservations for us. Hotel is just 5 min walk from Marutamachi Station exit 5. Just cross at the pedestrian crossing when you reach ground level and walk into the lane between the buildings. Turn left at the 3rd junction. After 50m, Hotel is on your right. This place is near Nishiki Market. Stay was really enjoyable and will definitely be back.

This was the best hotel my fiance and I have ever stayed. We loved the private bath experience as well as the beautiful traditional Japanese rooms. Not too traditional as we had a nice big western style bed to sleep in. Our accommodations had a few different rooms. Kind of like our own private apartment. Our favorite was the tatami room where my fiance spent our time relaxing and watching shows after a long day of exploring Kyoto. Also, the staff is excellent. They made the stay very special especially for my fiance. They found out it was her birthday and presented a small birthday cake to her. We will definitely be staying at here again.

Traditional feel with all the creature comforts you could want. Attentive staff. We had the dinner option one night and it was well worth it. Delicious! Also they have an option to have someone come dress you in kimono at your room. I recommend this over any rental experience.
