Tocen Goshoboh

全谷綺麗で絵大満足でしたが、お部屋の特に畳が汗臭くてとても困った。 暑いせいだと思うけれど畳からとても嫌な匂いがしてきて、寝てても気になって寝づらかったです。 他のとこらはとても綺麗でした。

The staffs are so kind and helpful. They helped us to arrange the transportation to Mt Rokko since the Ropeway was closed. The food is excellent.

a nice place to stay

Traditional Breakfast was delicious. Rooms are clean and spacious. Massage chairs are a nice touch—very relaxing and a quiet environment.

The hotel's hardware is perfect. We loved our room (特別室離れ庭＆露天風呂付「考槃居」), which cost HK$44,400 (US$5,612) for two nights. The room and bedding were incredibly comfortable, and standard yukatas were provided, though we were surprised by the lack of pajamas. We thoroughly enjoyed the separate bathhouse featuring an outdoor onsen and indoor hinoki bath. However, the bedroom suffered from foot traffic noise. The English-speaking staff tried her best, but lacked the genuine sincerity typical of luxury ryokans. Overall, service felt sloppy considering the hotel's caliber and premium price. We truly wished for service that was more considerate, attentive, and delivered from the heart. Upon arrival, we were informed meals would be served in the main restaurant rather than our room. Disappointingly, we ate dinner alongside three other tables. In our experience, high-end ryokans always offer in-room dining or private restaurant rooms. Guests paying this premium expect privacy and exclusivity, which felt overlooked here. Wanting to utilize our room's generous space, we requested in-room breakfast instead. Fortunately, they accommodated this. Our second dinner remained in the restaurant, but thankfully in a private room. The food was mediocre; the Kobe beef tasted like average wagyu. None of the seasonal dishes possessed the refinement expected at this price point. Overall, we simply wanted a much better dining experience to match the stunning property and the premium we paid.

Very nice stay. Staff are all professional and friendly. Dinner and breakfast were great. Onsen was perfect on a snowy day. We'd love to come back some day.

The staff were amazing and went above and beyond to make our stay great. We even had a lovely visit to a nearby waterfall. Enjoyed the onsen. Highly recommend for the onsen, proximity to shopping and the amazing staff.

Spa Dinner&breakfast

We enjoyed our overall stay in this traditional onsen inn. The lady who showed us to our room and explained how to make use of the onsen was very kind and helpful. Dinner was a special experience as was the Japanese breakfast. Our servers were attentive and very polite. It was helpful how they explained the dishes to us. I’m afraid, however, that the lady who intercepted us upon arrival was not so charming. Her attitude was rather brusque as she demanded us to face the camera without explaining that it was a thermometer. In fact, the front desk check in experience was below the standard of service one would expect at this price point.

Beautiful old inn. Antiques in each of the rooms. Loved the ofuro and the chair massager in the room. Very helpful staff. Good English support. Very close to the shopping area of the town.
