As announced by Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Tourism Tax is imposed starting 1 January 2023 for all hotel guests that are non-Malaysian or non-permanent Residents of Malaysia. Generally my stay in Westin is pleasant. Service is good and they gave us a little surprise when we told them it’s our anniversary.
However, the cleanness of the restaurant can be improved. There are many flies in the dinner buffet. They are basically everywhere - resting on the food, on the dining table & etc. It seems like the staffs are pretty used to it and doesn’t see it as a hygiene concern. Although there are electronic flies killer nearby, it’s obviously not sufficient. I won’t complain is it’s a hawker setting, but I don’t expect such condition in a 5-star hotel.

Super friendly and helpful staff. Location and facilities good. Food good but there are some relatively expensive options. Excellent golf facilities nearby and the complimentary shuttle bus service makes transport easy. A very enjoyable winter break.

Property, room, facilities (eg gym) are rather old; run down and in need of major refurbishment. On day of check-in, there was a power outage affecting the whole floor. Hotel rates are considerably high and I expected more from a five star chain.

The room Aircond is disappointing as the temperature is not cold enough, and has to use the fan to improve the cold condition. It was about 26-27 Celsius throughout the whole stay. The fan caused headache the next morning. Otherwise, it was a good experience.

Love that it was so close to the beach! We were hoping to have a BBQ dinner by the beach but it was closed for a company event. Celebrated my wife's birthday, and the hotel did a small gesture of decorating the room and sending a small cake. Thanks, Westin!

The rooms at The Westin Desaru are spacious and beautifully designed. The balcony views of the sea were simply breathtaking. The breakfast buffet was a delight, offering a wide variety of options for all tastes. The highlight of our stay must be the pristine private beach. Overall, our stay was a wonderful experience.

It was a comfortable and enjoyable stay over the long weekend. Service and staff were good throughout.
Some things to improve on :
1. The information made available to guests on hotel facilities and services. Not all information is clearly stated and a lot of times we had to call the front desk or ask the staff we see to make enquiries.
2. The weather was scorching hot when we were there and we had drinks at the lobby bar. A suggestion to install more fans or a large ceiling fan as it was too humid and stuffy to sit there and enjoy our drinks.
3. The view from the infinity pool is now spoiled by the roof of a new structural addition (a new pool and bar) at the front of the hotel which was a great pity. So it should no longer be known as the infinity pool.
