Hotel Oscar

My check-in experience was fantastic, a room was made ready for us well before check-in time due to a special request. The day time manager was helpful, friendly and informative about the area which is perfect for city exploring! Also the cleaning staff are amazing, our room was immaculate and when we required anything they were quick to assist. A couple of things to be aware of, there is no 24 hour reception, a nightshift staff member is onsite but you will need to find him and wake him for assistance. Also, there is nowhere closeby to purchase coffee before 8:30am so the free coffee machine facilities in the foyer are an amazing offer but take note, it is available 8am to 11pm, if you want coffee before your early flight or tour you are out of luck. And if you can find staff at 7:30am don’t bother asking them if the machine can be switched on 30 minutes early, I was rudely told it is against the rules. Some people have complained about noise from the nearby nightclub, we had a canal facing room and noise was minimal. If you choose to open your windows for some fresh air you will get some street noise but otherwise no complaints. The hotel is expensive for what you get but that is Amsterdam, everything is expensive. The rooms are small but again, Amsterdam has old unique boutique hotels which are renovated and not built for space. BUT if you are looking for a clean hotel in a great location this is your place.

Property was clean and well located. Wish the coffee machine was on earlier. Sign says 8 am but when we left the building after 8 the machine was still not on and there was no one around the desk. Our room was muggy but away from the nightclub noise.

Room 55 (first floor - back of the building). Stayed on a Tuesday night. Single room with small double bed, coffee & tea, mini fridge, TV, and en-suite with shower. It was a nice clean room and a comfortable bed. It had a hook in the bathroom, and as there was no wardrobe it could do with a hook somewhere in the room for a coat. You get a nice stay, but skylight is the only window and as such this is a room for a quick stay over rather than a longer break. Hotel Oscar is located on the edge of the busy part of Amsterdam centre and easy to walk to from Amsterdam Centraal Station. Everything is within easy reach including the Metro. On checking reviews the day before my trip they were inundated with comments about the nightclub situated behind Hotel Oscar. If you are at the back of the building you will hear this every night of the week. However, for me there was no room shaking, it was barely noticeable, more like a tap dripping. If you are a light sleeper and you focus on small noises I can see this may be annoying. When booking if you are concerned this may affect you book rooms at the front of the hotel. They do not offer upgrades. Couple of Amsterdam Coffee Shops in this area for those that like that, absolutely no smoking allowed in this hotel.

The staff was great! Valet parking was essential. Room was clean and had a nice bathroom. HOWEVER, it felt like I was sleeping between two bass speakers all night unti 4:00 AM when the nearby band or bar quit playing music.

No towels, elevator didn’t go to top floor, no airport shuttle

For me it was good, nice and central. The building is old and you can hear a nightclub next door (or behind) at night but the positive was that the shower was a good size even though the room was small. Very warm room. Everything clean, towels are a bit tired I’d say. All in all good but it’s not a luxury hotel.

Staff and clean room

Nice spacious room for 4 people. Renovated bathroom. Comfortable bed and pillows. Excellent location. Felt very safe. We were able to walk to all the sights we wanted to see.

In the middle of the city, which is nice, however the sounds from the theatre and night club are horrible. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

Centrally located hotel. Room was a bit small but was adequate. The shower was large and had great water pressure. The noise from a nearby club mentioned in other reviews did not bother us as we faced the canal.

This is a well run and friendly hotel. It is very convenient to walk to all the major attractions. The only downside is that it is right in the middle of the city which has bars playing loud music u til 4 am.

It's in the centre of everything and is value for money. Please do not drive as it can be very expensive to park your car as there's is no private parking.

Great location! Can get noisy at night due to the bars nearby but if you sleep easy like me it's no issue.

Had a great stay. Overall the hotel was clean and staff was friendly. Loved having the coffee machine and water in the lobby. The only thing was it was VERY hard to sleep. Between the hours of 11pm and 4am there was music from nearby clubs where you could hear and even feel the bass from the music. I woke up each night and had a hard time falling back asleep even with earplugs.
