Karawang Station
Karawang Station is the part of Operation Area I Jakarta. The second-class station is located in Jln. Arif Rahman Hakim, Nagasari, West Karawang, Karawang. It is placed at the heart of the city, close to the shopping and entertainment center, as well as the Local Government Office of Karawang Regency.
Nowadays, Karawang Station has four tracks with low platform and without the canopy. However, the station is always busy serving the local trains for Jakarta - Cikampek (return trip) and Jakarta - Purwakarta (return trip) routes. For the long-distance train, there are two economy-class trains, which are KA Singasari and KA Jayabaya heading to Central Java and East Java.
The most interesting thing about this station is an intersection of the non-active railway tracks that were built in the Dutch colonial era. They are the 21-kilometre long Karawang – Lamaran - Rengasdengklok track that was built in 1919, also the 16-kilometre long Karawang - Wadas track that was built in 1911. Both tracks were closed since 1981.

Karawang City
Karawang is situated in the northern West Java. The name is remembered on the literary masterpiece of Chairil Anwar entitled "Karawang-Bekasi". On that poem, the maestro expresses his sadness regarding the brutality of the colonialists in 1945, also encouraged people’s spirit to continue struggling. That's why this poem has a special place in the heart of Karawang society.
These days, Karawang is on its way to be the center of industry. This city is in a rush to execute some developments. The location of Karawang is very special since it's between the state capital city (Jakarta) and the provincial capital city (Bandung). This regency also borders Bekasi Regency and Bogor in the west, Cianjur Regency in the south, and Purwakarta Regency in the southeast. Thus, the condition makes Karawang as the main target of the global investors.
Industrial Area Status

Today, Karawang is widely known as an industrial area. Data from the Regional Office of Manpower and Transmigration Department of Karawang Regency explains that there are 1.762 big factories operated in this regency until 2018. Furthermore, Karawang sets the highest minimum wage in Indonesia with the nominal reaches almost Rp4.000.000 per month.
Known as The Granary Town

Karawang is notable as the nation granary area since forever. The major area of this 1,753.27 km2 territorial is functioned as paddy field. The government of Karawang Regency struggles to keep the size of that agricultural land so it is not invaded by the industrial and residential interest. There is about 85.000-hectare area that is set as the sustainable agricultural land these days. With that size, the farmers are predicted to produce more than 500 tons of rice each harvest time.
Rengasdengklok Affair
The history of Indonesia cannot be parted from Karawang. Rengasdengklok as one of its cities is the place where a group of Indonesian Youth hid Ir. Soekarno and Mohammad Hatta. Their objection was to hasten the drafting process of the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence script.
Tugu Kebulatan Tekad Rengasdengklok (Monument of Rengasdengklok Determination) was built in 1950 to commemorate the spirit to free the motherland from the hand of colonialists. The monument can be found in Kampung Bojong Tugu, North Rengasdengklok Village, Rengasdengklok District, Karawang Regency, or about 100 metres from the proclamators’ hidding house.
