The Progo train or “Sepur Praga," is an AC economy class non-PSO train service designated for the city of Yogyakarta to Jakarta route—round trip. This train connects two major cities through the Lempuyangan Yogyakarta Station and Jakarta Pasar Senen Station. Every day, there is one round trip with Progo train.

The Origin of Name
Progo train takes its name from a river in Yogyakarta. Progo is a large river separating Kulon Progo with Bantul and Sleman Regencies.
The History of Trains
Historically, Progo train was the Senja train, operating in the 1970s. By the early 1980s, the Indonesian Railways Company rearrange the system, one with the procurement of special economy class train (Senja Yogya Economy) that serves the corridor of Gambir Station and Yogyakarta Station. Over time, the travel route was changed again to connect the Pasar Senen station with Lempuyangan. In further developments, the train changed its name into Empu Jaya train. The name is an abbreviation of Lempuyangan and Jakarta Raya. However, due to the number of accidents happened, Empu Jaya train undergone a total overhaul and renamed as Progo train since 2002.
The Train Set
The Progo train pulls its train set using locomotive CC201, CC203, CC204, or CC206. This locomotive will pull the entire sets of Progo train, which consists of seven to eight carriages of AC Economy class non-PSO, one dining car, and one power car.
