Putri Deli Train
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) provides railway-based mass transportation service for Sumatera island territory. Specifically, the only governmental institution that supplies train services in Indonesia presents Putri Deli Train as an Economy class train that connects Medan and Tanjung Balai city. Under the management of PT KAI (Persero) of the Regional Division 1 of North Sumatera, this train serves intercity trips through the corridors of Medan Station and Tanjung Balai Station.
The frequency of the trips of Putri Deli Train is quite high, i.e. three times a day, for every single trip. For both cities, the train provides departure times in the morning, noon, and the afternoon. The departure from Medan Station is varied into 6.30 a.m., 12.15 pm., and 5.10 p.m. The trip duration for the distance is in average of 4.5 hours. However, especially for the afternoon trip, Putri Deli Train takes 5 hours. On the other hand, the time scheduled for the Tanjung Balai station is 6.55 a.m., 12.10 p.m., and 7.25 p.m. The duration taken for the route is in average of 4.5 hours. On a single trip, Putri Deli Train stops by at nine stations, namely Kisaran, Sei Bejangkar, Limapuluh, Bandar Tinggi, Tebingtinggi, Bamban (only on the trip from Medan Station), Lubuk Pakam, Batang Kuis, and Bd. Khalipah Station. Currently, the ticket fare is very affordable, i.e. Rp27.000 per passenger. The ticket fare is subsidized by the government, therefore it is very affordable.
Despite the fact that Putri Deli is a subsidized Economy class train, it is provided with satisfactory facilities and services. Each coach is enhanced with at least two units of Air Conditioner that makes the passengers feel cool during the trip. The toilets are available at the end of every coach and is environmentally-friendly designed. Besides, there is also a squat toilet, a sink, and a douche that always kept clean. Seats are coated with synthetic leather cover and permanently positioned as 2 – 2 (2 persons on the right-hand sides and 2 others on the left) seating arrangement. On every four seating numbers, there are two electric plugs that passengers can use to charge their electronic devices with during the trips. Luggage is available on each upper side of the seat. For hungry and thirsty passengers, a special dining train is available with a typical menu of various foods and beverages of PT KAI. The foods and drinks are available at an additional cost (excluded from the ticket fare).

The history of the train
Putri Deli Train was first launched on a Saturday, January 5th 2008. The train is actually a replacement to Putri Ungu Train. This train is a combination between the two Economy class trains that formerly served the same route. The former trains were Lancang Kuning Train and Putri Hijau Train.
The train series
Putri Deli Train is operated using BB302, BB303, BB203, and CC201 locomotives with locomotive depot in Medan. Those locomotives pull seven series of the train which consist of 5 units of AC-Economy class coaches, one power dining car and one unit of luggage car.
