Serayu Train is a flagship economy class service which operates between Purwokerto-Bandung-Jakarta. The AC PSO Economy train is operated specifically by Division V Purwokerto Operational Region of PT KAI to serve the corridors between Purwokerto Station, Bandung Kiara Condong Station, and Jakarta Pasar Senen Station.
The train which is also known as Cipuja or Citrajaya serves the inter-city trip twice a day. The distance between those cities is 417 km. To travel the distance, Serayu Train uses locomotives with a speed of 50-100 km per hour. Therefore, it takes 10,5 - 11,5 hours to arrive at its destination. Along the journey, this train will take a transit on 18 different stations. Several of them are Kroya Station, Maos Station, Kawunganten Station, Gandrungmangun Station, Langen Station, Banjar Station, Cipari Station, Cipeundeuy Station, Warungbandrek Station, Cibatu Station, Kiaracondong Station, Padalarang Station, Purwakarta Station, and Jatinegara Station.
The schedule of Serayu Train is consistent with Gapeka 2017 (a chart showing PT KAI train schedule). For the passengers from Purwokerto, Serayu Train provides two departing schedules, namely the morning train at 06.30 and the afternoon train at 16.30. Meanwhile, for the passengers from Jakarta Pasar Senen, Serayu Train departs at 09.15 in the morning and 21.00 in the evening. For travelers who depart from Bandung, Serayu Train to Purwokerto leaves at 00.40 after midnight and 13.10 every day. As for Serayu Train from Bandung Station to Jakarta Pasar Senen Station, it departs at 00:32 and 13:25 every day. The train ticket is charged at a flat price, 67,000 IDR per person.
Operating as an economy class train, Serayu provides several facilities for its passengers. Each compartment is equipped with six unit of split air conditioners, toilet, a permanent seat in a 2-3 arrangement, cabin luggage rack, electric socket, and a small table beside each seat. Restoration compartment provides meal and beverages for passengers to buy. The menu consists of popular Indonesian meals, such as fried rice, fried noodles, fried chicken and rice, coffee, and tea.

History Behind the Name
The name Serayu originally comes from a river, Kali Serayu. Serayu Train passes this river twice on each journey. The river itself flows across five regencies, namely Wonosobo Regency, Banjarnegara Regency, Purbalingga Regency, Banyumas Regency, and finally, rests at its estuary in Hindia Ocean through Cilacap Regency.
History of the Train
PT KAI officially inaugurated Serayu Train in 1985 as Sidareja Fast Train. Later, the name was changed into Cipuja Train for a day trip and Citrajaya Train for the night trip. As for Citrajaya Train, it served a longer route, between Cilacap - Jakarta Raya. In 2000, the train name was changed again into Serayu and remained so to this day. Since 2013, Serayu Train route has been extended to Purwokerto. In its latest development, the train no longer stops at Jakarta Kota station, but proceed directly to Pasar Senen Station.
Serayu Train sequences consist of 10 compartments on each trip. The sequences are divided into eight passenger compartments, one compartment for restoration and power generator, and one for luggage. Each passenger compartment has a capacity of 106 seats. Therefore, this train can carry up to 530 passengers on each trip.
Up to this day, Serayu is the only train operating in Jakarta - Central Java route which also passes Bandung along its journey, but not through Cirebon. Along the trip, Serayu offers a scenery of lush green mountain for its passengers.
