Turangga Train
Turangga is to the train owned by PT KAI (Persero) Operation Area 8 Surabaya which provides Executive class service for Bandung-Surabaya round trip. This express train operates once a day, carrying 700-900 passengers.
Running with locomotive CC206, Turangga Train travels in a speed of 50-100 km per hour, covering a distance of 699 km between Bandung and Surabaya within 12.5 to 13 hours. Along the way, the train stops at several stations, including Bandung Hall Station, Cipeundeuy Station, Tasikmalaya Station, Banjar Station, Kroya Station, Kutoarjo Station, Yogyakarta Station, Solo Balapan Station, Madiun Station, Nganjuk Station, Kertosono Station, Jombang Station, Mojokerto Station, and Surabaya Gubeng Station.
The express train serves a long-haul trip with Executive class quality. Scheduled to operate at night, the train is often referred to as “Ekspres Malam” or "The Night Express ". In accordance with Gapeka 2017, Turangga Train traveling from Bandung Station departs at 19.30 and arrives at Surabaya Gubeng Station at 08.14 in the next morning. It takes about 12 hours 44 minutes to cover the distance between the two main stations. From the opposite direction, Turangga Train departs at 16:30 from Surabaya Gubeng Station and is due to arrive at 05.04 in the next morning. This trip is slightly shorter, i.e., 12 hours 34 minutes.
As an Executive class train connecting the Capital of West Java Province and East Java Province, Turangga Train offers train tickets at an appropriate rate. The ticket fares are available at Rp345.000-Rp460.000 per passenger, depending on the subclass (seat position in the train), ticket reservation time, and travel time. However, specifically for Turangga Train with shorter distances (e.g., Gubeng Surabaya Station – Madiun Station), the train tickets are available at Rp210.000-Rp280.000 per passenger. The facilities offered for passengers are the typical Executive facilities, i.e., air-conditioning, TV, toilets, cabin baggage, comfortable seating, power plugs, pillows, blankets, and meal service.

The Origin of the name
As a Satwa (animal) executive train, Turangga Train takes its name from an animal. According to local folk beliefs, Turangga refers to the horse of Javanese royalty. The horse becomes the symbol of a vehicle that is both fast and steadfast. This naming implies that Turangga Train aspires to provide the best service for the satisfaction and pride of passengers.
The History of the train
PT KAI (Persero) officially launched Turangga Train on September 2, 1995. On its first operation, Turangga Train served a combination of Executive Business and Business class service. Starting from October 1999, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) decided to upgrade Turangga Train to specifically serve executive class, along with the production of PT Inka's new series.
The Train Series
In its operation, Turangga Train pulls 10-12 cars, consisting of one CC206 locomotive, six to eight passenger cars of Executive class, one dining car, one power car, and one cargo car. In the morning, the railroad cars are usually used as an extra in Argo Parahyangan train that serves Bandung-Gambir route.
Heading to Bali
People often rely on Turangga Train to travel to Bali Island. Usually, passengers of Turangga Train transit in VIP room upon their arrival at Surabaya Gubeng Station. Passengers then continue their trip to Banyuwangi in the afternoon, taking KA Mutiara Timur. Arriving at Banyuwangi, they are heading to Denpasar by bus, which is provided by PT KAI (Persero) in cooperation with Damri.
