No garbage bags in the room. No safe. No microwave. No sofa chair as shown on photo. One chair was broken. Horrible room

It was great location, close to a lot good historical features but the hotel is in need of some updating, like working air conditioning, closer inspection while cleaning and maybe an extra pillow left in the rooms as well as a box of Kleenex. The pool and fitness center was great.

Fantastic location, great staff, nice room. My only complaints for an otherwise great stay are that the key cards kept demagnetizing so we had to ask about 6 times in 3 days to get them fixed, and there are no towel holders in the bathroom except in the shower itself (nothing for hand towels). Very minor!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Barrington Hotel. The room was clean and well-maintained, the bed comfortable and the bathroom surprisingly spacious. While a bit dated, as many other commenters mentioned, there was nothing missing from the amenities. The staff went out of their way to provide us top-notch service. The only slight glitch was that we struggled to park our (surprisingly tall) 2012 4Runner, as we learned that the recommended parking lot across from the hotel had a 5'11" limit, so initially we parked on a city street. After asking for additional help from the staff, they explained that there is a section of the garage reserved for taller vehicles, and we had no trouble with parking after that. With its extremely centralized downtown location and reasonable pricing, our stay at the Barrington Hotel will become a fond memory of our Halifax experience and we would definitely stay there again!

Proximity to everything… Comfortable room with a very good tv that had all the sports channels… I would definitely recommend this hotel and if I ever have the good fortune of returning to Halifax, I will be booking to stay there again.

Hotel is in a great location but the building itself is dated and in need of a refresh.

Great location with a lot of restaurants and close to everything. Hotel was a bit needy of upgrades and Reno’s.

It’s an older building and older hotel. Could do with a renovation. The decor, cleanliness, and amenities left something to be desired. I wouldn’t stay here again for this price point

This hotel is beyond tired, it's exhausted. Approaching rates applicable to luxury hotels ($395.00 + tax per night) the brass on elevator doors and elevator buttons was so dirty one did not want to touch them. Peeling wallpaper, mold in the bathroom & laminate missing from the sink apron, room furniture from the 50's brought up from the basement, dirty carpeting and room service/cleaning provided only once during a 5 day stay, hotel policy. This should be mentioned in Expedia material so that people know what to expect for their money. Certainly not a lot. The staff responded as best they could and did provide daily room service to make beds and tidy the room after we insisted for the money we were paying. This is not even a three star hotel, two stars would be a generous rating.

The AC in my room was leaking. Wifi connection was extremely poor. I got a noise complaint for playing music very quietly. The room seem outdated, would not recommend.

I’ll keep it short and sweet. Book elsewhere -Room smells of mildew -Mould in the shower -Dust build up in the ceiling vents -Ceiling had extensive water damage -Dust over all the furniture -Washroom soap dispensers covered in green/brown grime. We originally had two nights booked. We didn’t finish our stay with this hotel.

Excellent location, helpful staff. However, housecleaning was slow and sometimes not existent. Garbage has to be collected on a daily basis and the change of sheets and towels should occur at least every two days Met a lady who told me "I do towels but not garbage collection" and to "speak to the people downstairs".

The overall location of the hotel was the main positive-very walkable to many tourist locations and the downtown harbours. The hallways and rooms were incredibly outdated. Don’t let the pictures of the renovated modern lobby fool you, the rooms look like they haven’t been given attention since the 1970s. There was rust and stains in the bathroom. The bed was dated, but definitely still clean. The Expedia listing stated there was a sauna, but to our disappointment there was only one poorly maintained swimming pool. There clearly used to be a hot tub but it has been since boarded over. Our TV did not work. Housekeeping was minimal, with basic amenities. The worst part was how thin the walls were between rooms. Our neighbours had a “passionate” night and we were woken to OUR bed physically shaking and loud expletives heard through the walls. We could literally hear someone on the phone next door speaking at a normal volume. The only reason I’d be inclined to stay here again was the location, but overall for the price I do not feel that it was worth it.

Location was awesome. Right downtown close to the harbour. Parking was easy. Staff pleasant and very helpful.

A/c didn’t work. Internet was painfully slow. Staff was exceptionally slow and unresponsive. After reporting it in the morning , was told it would fixed by the evening when we got back. It wasn’t. After much nagging, they eventually gave us another room. Both rooms were very clean, practically spotless.

The staff was very nice, but the room was below average. We could not get the thermostat to work until we were on our way out the door, and the television seems to only cycle between artwork for some reason? The last TV we had in a different room in the hotel also only did this, so I'm not sure why. All in all, the people are nice and the space is pretty clean, but there is not much in terms of amenities.

Check in was easy. I asked for a late checkout and it was no issue. Pool and fitness area was enjoyable. I travel to Halifax a few times a year. I will be staying here again.

The conditioner bottle in the shower was mouldy. There was a build up of dirt in the corners of the bathroom. There was a room is only cleaned if you stay four nights. Dingy, dark and dirty
