Unfortunately, my stay was disappointing. The room was extremely hot and stuffy. While a fan had been provided, there was no air conditioning and the fan did little to improve the lack of ventilation. The room also did not appear to have been cleaned to a particularly high standard. There was a noticeable line of dust behind the radiator, and I found a small puddle of water on the bathroom floor upon entering the room. The sound insulation also appeared to be very poor. The walls and ceilings seemed exceptionally thin, and noise from the room above was so loud at times that it genuinely sounded as though the floor was struggling to support the weight. As a result, I had a very poor night’s sleep. Given the circumstances, I requested a discretionary one-hour late checkout, but this was declined due to what I was told was a high volume of arriving guests the following morning. However, when I left, I noticed the car park was only around half full, which made the refusal difficult to understand. While the staff were polite, the issues with the room, cleanliness concerns, and the lack of flexibility regarding checkout left me feeling disappointed overall.

What you would expect from a Mecure hotel. Only issue was the distance of the room from main part of hotel.

Room was not clean, bedding smelt of damp. Property was being renovated, lots of building work and scaffolding outside the room. Breakfast was decent with plenty of choice.

I booked a single room with twin bed but upgraded to a double bed and got a better room. The room itself was quite dark, except for first thing in the morning when the sun lit up the room and the bathroom, which was nice. The bedroom had only one central light (quite dark) and one bedside light, with no lighting over by the desk where the kettle/tea/coffee were, which was a little awkward. The bathroom was very nice, light, airy and spacious. The room itself was up and down a lot of stairs, along winding corridors with creaky floors, but the reason I chose this hotel was because it is hundreds of years old and has character, so I expected that! I was very disappointed with the internet, for a couple of reasons. One is that this is one of the few hotels I’ve stayed in recently that has open, unsecured internet, which is not good. The other is that it was very frustratingly intermittent and many everyday websites were simply not available, including the hotel’s own website! When I could get on a website or into my e-mails, one time it would be on and the next few minutes it would be off again, then back on, then off, even though it should me as still being connected!. Very frustrating. Perhaps this was because of the location of my room in the hotel and it being so old and having very thick walls? Anyway, I would recommend the hotel, as long as you know about the quirks. I liked the free parking and the hotel is located in nice private grounds, which is nice.

We went for the "privilage" room, the best option they have cause it came with a walk in shower. That was a must as my partner has an injury. We stayed 2 nights, the room was so basic, very similar to the Premier Inn just slightly bigger. So bad points, there was a 1 inch gap still there when you close the window, so it was pointless closing it. You could hear the traffic on the motorway and the wind was still blowing through. As we walked out into a courtyard area, my partner slipped and fell on the floor because it was so slippery. They mopped the outside tiling floor and didn't display wet floor signs. It looks good from the outside but the inside was very basic and you pay way more than its worth.

Just had a single night stay with some friends. Staff helpful and friendly, room lovely, clean. Free WiFi us nice as the signal in a big old building with thick walls is non existent. Getting an uber to go out simple. Breakfast has plenty of options. Didn't have the time to use the spa
