Hotel is old, staff is not friendly. One great employee helped up with our bags to the room. The place was dirty the room door latch is unsafe.

I thought I’d relax and watch something my last night there. No signal so no good. Ended up just reading instead. Not a big deal, but would be nice to have when I wanted it. The door to the room stuck so I had to force it open and closed.

This is an old property that needs updating for noise control. Double pane windows is a must given its location. Unless you are a naturally heavy sleeper, I would not recommend this hotel.

“Old style” Hotel, right in the middle of town, so much to do and see. Great restaurants right next to the hotel, I chose to park across the street, in the public parking structure, easy in and out. The room was basic but clean, very small tv, clean sheets, bathroom was small but clean and nice. No complaints at all, it’s priced right, for what you get, in this area.

No refrigerator, no microwave, no desk, no chair. Fire alarm went off because of steam from hot shower. Room was small.

This is a very noisy place to stay. Windows barely kept out noise (street, seagulls, etc). We stayed on the 4th floor in the historic section and there was a skylight in the bathroom where the seagulls hung out and called all night long which echoed down the skylight. Slept horribly because of the noise. Bring ear plugs to sleep. Bed was okay. Could hear person in a different room snoring. Not very sound proof.

The Monterey Hotel was great find. Location was really good and the hotel was quaint and charming. The public areas were a little worn out but the rooms were in good shape and the bed was very comfortable.

Didn't like the street noise. Cars and motorcycles revving up until after midnight on Fri. Saturday was much better. Also guy on 4th fl above us sounded like he was moving furniture and dropping things until after midnight

This place would be nice if you couldn’t hear literally every single word utter from the surrounding rooms and the abysmal obnoxious seagulls outside the skylight that cannot be closed. Didn’t get more than 3 hours of sleep due to all of these issues.

We loved our stay at The Monterey Hotel! The building has beautiful historic charm with modern comforts—clean, cozy rooms, comfortable beds, and a friendly, welcoming staff. The location is unbeatable—right in downtown Monterey, within walking distance to Fisherman’s Wharf, Cannery Row, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We didn’t use our car once! Morning coffee and pastries were a nice touch, and the atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing. Highly recommend for couples or anyone looking to experience the heart of Monterey.

Room was very small, however still enjoyed our stay. The staff was extremely kind and right in the middle of downtown. Will come back again but possibly get a bigger room.

Historic in relation to this hotel just means old, dirty, and uncared for. The location was excellent but there were many other hotels in the area that we will be staying at next time. Not worth any money you might save by staying there.

Great layover location. Easy parking across the street in the public garage. Birds are noisy but they are all over the city so you won’t escape them.

This hotel was very charming! While it is on the older side (we stayed in the historic side of the hotel) is was clean, comfortable and very charming. My mother and I had a lovely time here. It’s in a great spot downtown and walking distance to the pier and eateries.
