Oh dear. Where to start? The whole edifice needs to be torn down & rebuilt. There are so many issues with this hotel, due to its great age, that the management have smoothed over for decades. Uneven flooring in the rooms, cracked hand basins in the bathrooms, poor quality beds, worn out linen, single glazing everywhere, condensation in the rooms. I understand that due to the age of the building a lift cannot be installed.
Also there are notices all around the public areas advising guests that a gratuity will be added to your bill on checkout, but no mention of the %! When I asked the receptionist what the rate was she was unsure! Surety we should be entitled to know what we are to be charged? You can opt out of this payment, which I did as the could not tell me how much I would be expected to pay.
For guests with mobility difficulties I would avoid this hotel. As I referenced, there is no lift but plenty of steps, to request a room on the ground floor involved a trek outside across an uneven gravel path to annex at the back of hotel.
On the plus side, the staff do a great job with very little. The breakfast is wonderful. The bar could be better stocked with more variety.
