This property is a lovely restored manor house in a bucolic setting on the edge of Edinburgh. All were as expected and the level of service was very good. The food was very good, and service attentive and accurate. The front desk was accessible, accommodating and very helpful. The Bar was great fun.

It was really hamming up its Scottishness. Fake suits of armour, shields on the wall, animal skulls everywhere. Just wasn’t classy. The food was ok. They had tried with the vegan option - gnocchi with fried mushrooms - but could have done with some veg and a sauce. They’d run out of Pinot Grigio Blush. However the only real complaint was the price over £300 for a night, and it really wasn’t worth that. The bathroom was much lower quality than I’d expect for that price. Chipped laminate bath panel, faded chrome, holes in the tiles that had been filled in.

Very clean room, incredible grounds you can walk around, castle restaurant was incredible. Staff were SO friendly. We felt right at home

The Melville Castle was a very enjoyable, relaxing stay. The food was excellent, we had breakfast both mornings and a very good dinner the one evening. The staff were friendly and helpful. We truly enjoyed our stay!

Beautiful location. Nice room - the shower head was a bit floppy though and bath plug I had to wedge some soap underneath to drain the bath. Great staff. Good breakfast (seemed a little small but I could probably have asked for two of everything with my Scottish breakfast.) Good parking.

My adult daughter and I flew in from Los Angeles and were so happy the bar was still open when we arrived at 9pm. The castle is charming, beautiful and homey feeling. Not stodgy or hoity toity. The beds are SO comfortable! We slept like a rock! Took the bus into Edinburgh the next day. Pick up us right outside the long driveway. You can leave your car at the end of the driveway. We would definitely stay again!

Unique experience outside the city. Convenient to public transportation and location for those travelling without a car.

Beautiful location and enchanting historic castle. Staff were efficient and the dinner restaurant was very good - one of the best lamb meals I've ever had.

Excellent experience, only wish we could have stayed longer! The staff was so welcoming, kind and helpful. The property was absolutely beautiful, and amenties were great (free cookies and hot chocolate in the room). The breakfast was delicious and filling. The hotel is also conveniently located close to Edinburgh, but felt tranquil and tucked away. Highly recommend!

Lovely quiet property! So many trails and quiet spots on the exterior grounds plus so many fun art pieces to view on the interior. Rooms were fantastic. Comfortable bedding with lots of room to enjoy life after one returns to the room for the evening. On site restaurant has so many tasty items to choose from on the menu. Free breakfast with the stay was a wonderful addition to start the morning as one can view the area outside large windows.

This castle was absolutely lovely. The staff were amazingly friendly and the rooms were very nice and welcoming. We walked the grounds and saw some nice views. I highly recommend the castle dining room. The food was amazing!

We were looking for a castle stay in Britain as kind of a "bucket list" item. The Melville isn't exactly a "castle," more of a retired/repurposed palace, but the overall experience was what we were looking for - suits of armor, antique paintings and so on. The restaurant is awesome! Great dishes and service! Staff was very helpful. Rooms mixed ancient decor with modern amenties like ample power outlets, modern bathroom, etc. Grounds have many paths for nature walks. Was a nice experience!

An unforgettable stay-truly five stars in every sense. Melville Castle is beyond beautiful; it’s an experience that’s hard to put into words. From the stunning surroundings to the atmosphere inside the castle, everything felt magical and steeped in history. Every moment, both in and around the castle, felt special. It’s not just a place to stay-it’s something you feel. Absolutely exceptional.
