The front of house staff were nice and helpful but obviously it was under staffed. We waited over an hour to have our plates removed at dinner and we're then told the kitchen was shut so desert wasn't available, we booked for 7.30pm. This is my 3rd stay at the hotel and it was very disappointing.

Very happy with the room and view over the river. The bar area was very nice to having the decking area where you could sit outside again by the river. Didn't have time for breakfast as we had an early start so cannot comment on that. Parking facilities were excellent.

Perfect location to wonder into town, and riverside which is nice for walks. We hiked in Ambleside during daytime so needed pit stop close by, this was a perfect 20min drive away from there. Great free parking, and welcomed by the loveliest staff. Lovely entrance and bar area. Pool great, and sauna/steam room is nice touch. Just shame there is no changing room, so you have to wonder in and out with swimwear on through reception. Sadly there wasn’t a flow within rest of hotel. Carpet leading up to bedrooms looks in need of really good hoover and clean. Glass on doors needs a freshen up. We were in room 203. river view, which was lovely, room spacious with two beds (double and single), beds comfy and clean. Just looks really tired and in need of a deep clean. Carpets had toe nails on floor and noticed couple bugs walking around. Holes in corners of carpet, and small scatter cushions tired with holes in. Just removed off beds, they’re not necessary. Bathroom was dirty. Build up of dirt behind bathroom door and corners just not cleaned. And behind toilet was filthy. Tiles had layers of scum and mould. Just a shame, as it just needs good bleach, cleaners are letting this place down. Not doing great job!! Felt a bit icky. Lampshade covered in makeup. Ironing board filthy. Management - Please invest in deep clean!! Breakfast -ok. Juices are concentrated. Coffee is filter. All hot items fried. Bread for toast just out of a supermarket packet. Just very basic. :/

Free parking in an undercover car park was a bonus. The location was great- a quick walk into town. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Very basic/dated hotel, no frills, clean, no aircon or fans (during the UK heatwave), breakfast was simple but tasty, bed was comfy. The gym/pool was a nice extra. The hotel was walkable to the town and castle which was very convenient, nice views. Parking was a pig on arrival, tight bays and people badly parked but it was empty when we left so much easier to get out than in. Was all we needed for our short stop in Kendal.

Fabulous hotel. Great friendly staff. Great amenities. Swimming pool etc. breakfast etc very good too.

Stayed here a few nights after arriving from the US before moving on to other areas in the Lakes. Excellent location in the heart of Kendal convenient to restaurants and shops. Enjoyed a nice hike right from our door along the river and up to the castle.

Stayed here on a Saturday night and on first impressions of the reception and bar/dining/ terraced area, it looked as if the hotel had been given a bit of an uplift, the outside was in keeping with the era with the local buildings and ones dating back to 1900s. The pool etc and gym were good and enjoyed them. What wasn’t good was the state of the room, which was in a god awful state of repair, with evidence in insect damaged carpet, lack of painting for a number of years, wood facias all scuffed and chipped, the shower screen having no rubber strip to prevent water dropping onto the floor. The last part caused water to pour onto the bathroom floor and caused us to get extra towels to shower with as we soaked everything up that had leaked out. The furniture and fitting in bathroom were very dated too. I would have asked for a different room but the hotel was fully booked for the night. The bedding and cleanliness of the room was ok and the only reason we stayed there. I would say at £135 for one night with no breakfast, was grossly overpriced, by aporox £70, given the appalling state of the room. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel to anyone, especially at its grossly inflated price and would only consider going back if the whole interior of every room was upgraded. The interior made a Travelodge room look like a palace. Bitterly disappointed to say the least! 0 ⭐️ for bedroom and 3⭐️ for everything else!

The staff, spa, restaurant were all welcoming and well appointed. Location was convenient. Our room could have used some updating. Clean, but mattress sagged, chair cushions thin.

Hotel is very close to the town, transport links and rooms overlook the river. Staff are very welcoming and helpful. We have stayed many times and will continue to stay here.

Great location overlooking river. Quiet. Handy for station. Shaver socket not working in 103. No usb sockets. Good internet. Comfortable beds. Hot shower.
