We were disappointed with the service from the moment we arrived, which certainly did not reflect a five-star experience.
At check-in, the receptionist was unfriendly and made us feel like an inconvenience. We noticed other guests were offered water on arrival, whereas we were not, but initially put this down to an oversight.
Things worsened when we discovered physical photo ID was required. We had photos of our passports on our phones, which were accepted, but only after making it clear this was an inconvenience. We were then informed that Apple Pay could not be used for the incidental deposit. Although unusual, we accepted this, but as we had no physical card, another payment link had to be arranged. Again, we were made to feel like a burden and were simply told to sit and wait, with no explanation or apology.
When my husband spoke to the manager, rather than addressing our concerns, he told us we should not have booked through a third party and implied that booking directly would have provided us with the necessary information. We found this response disappointing, as guests should receive the same standard of service regardless of how they book.
Overall, we felt unwelcome throughout and the service was far below what we expected from a five-star hotel.
