I chose the hotel because of its location because I am familiar with the area of the town; but I had no idea what a hidden gem this hotel is. Both my friend and I were so pleasantly surprised. The rooms are spacious and very neatly appointed with massive wood furniture and cute deco details (LOVE those red paperweights on the nightstands). The mattresses are comfortable and with the blackout shades a good night's sleep is ensured.
Breakfast is served by a super friendly long-time employee (staff retention is always a good sign) with a smile, and should one have any extra wishes I am sure she would make it happen. But the selection is comprehensive anyway, and sets one up for a day of exploring.
All in all, the house is well-kept, in good repair, lovingly decorated and the staff enjoy their job serving guests. I couldn't have been happier.
A taxi ride from downtown to the hotel is around $12-14 and only takes a few minutes if one is too tired to wait for the bus or streetcar after a day of exploring.
