The hotel was conveniently placed about 10 minutes walk to the railway station and 15-20 minutes walk into the town. There was plenty of free parking and the hotel is set in nice grounds. The hotel is a grand old building but in places could do with a bit of an upgrade certainly in the rooms where our balcony windows had seen better days. Breakfast was good and a nice hot and cold buffet selection. Plus the service was good. Nice bar area but shut fairly early and apart from Saturday you couldn’t get a drink past about 10.45 pm! all the staff were very pleasant (apart from head bar man who always seemed miserable and couldn’t shut early enough ☹️). Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Not clean room very strong smile , no A/C even bottle water to drink or fridge not recommended at all

Great staff. Nice bar. Lovely outside. Room walls were very thin, could hear the guy snoring nextdoor. Any conversation in the hallway, I could hear. Not worth what I spent to be honest. It’s not as bad as I’m going to say but inside needs taking apart and rebuilding to more solid foundations. I know what I’m getting at a premier inn or holiday inn. Shame really as the location is immense

Room was clean. View was amazing. Very little room on one side of the bed so getting in and out was tight. Wonky mirror above sink. Bar staff excellent. Restaurant staff efficient. The whole hotel although it had much character had a run-down feeling about it. Enjoyed walking in the grounds and close to town centre. Plenty of room to park.

Its a grand old hotel. It has everything you would need. One of the highlights was having a bedroom with a balcony that looked out over Morecambe bay. Beautiful. If you like somewhere with a bit of character, and a peacock !, this is the place for you ! Thanks Liz

Everything needs updating. Bathroom facilities only satisfaction and the shower was unsatisfactory. The room was dark and the lighting Best thing about it it was the bed comfortable and large.

Loved the old feel of the place and history, like being back in a military mess, friendly and comforting bar, great views from the room.

Fantastic building from days gone by Needs a lot of work, single glazed windows, bedrooms, bathrooms very out dated,overpriced at £200, very old fashioned like your granny’s house Main rooms damp on ceiling the whole place needs up dating

Only negatives were furniture in bedroom shabby and outside of bathroom window filthy. Reception and bar staff excellent.

Lovely hotel with many historical features, in a lovely setting. Had a lovely relaxing stay. The food was good and the staff excellent.

Fantastic location with a resident peacock . Also spotted some deer around the property. Breakfast was excellent .

The hotel setting is delightful and has a real 'old country house' feel to it. There is a resident long-tailed peacock, who made very loud and frequent 'crows' and once flew from some high trees at dusk, which was amazing! The bar and a restaurant are next to each other and the staff were pleasant and very helpful. The full breakfast was excellent, if a little pricey at £14.50, although this was probably equivalent to any cafe price nowadays. I was grateful to be upgraded to a twin room for no extra charge! However, there were some practical points I found unhelpful and maybe the hotel could give them some thought, given that my room tariff on the wall near reception was £170 pp per night! There were two double sockets fitted over a heavy desk, which partially covered the sockets and without moving the desk out slightly, it was impossible to use my chargers or the kettle. The bathroom was in good order and the shower very good, but the grab rail was dangerously loose and I didn't want to use it. I'm 72 years old and just beginning to appreciate the benefits of a grab rail, but this could not be used safely. It was also installed near the tap end and might have been more useful at the back of the bath? The windows were old and heavy and I had to climb onto a seat in the window bay to open them - I like fresh air! There were a number of elderly people staying who might have found it difficult to solve these problems... But I would certainly stay here again!

Great breakfasts. Very friendly staff. A hotel with real character. Enjoyed playing on the full sized snooker table.

Lovely old fashioned Hotel, nice grounds surrounding for peaceful walks.

What we liked: Superior sea view room, with breathtaking scenery. Really lovely woodland paths around the hotel to get lost in, and only a 15 minute walk from Grange Over Sands. Bed was very comfy and staff were very friendly and helpful. What could be better: Cleanliness of the bathroom. Clearly marked vegan options or more readily available vegan options on the dinner and bar menus - it was a bit tricky working out what we could eat!

We were able to stay in one room in the first floor overlooking the entrance with our 2 grandchildren and dog. We will be back.

Beautiful grounds with great staff, rooms a bit dated but would return for sure. Snooker room was a great bonus. Dart board requires replacing.
