Great facilities. Car needed. Beautiful grounds and buildings. Staff a little preoccupied by corporate guests. Service could be better except for lady at breakfast who was excellent, helpful and friendly. Overall a good stay and would go back.

Just returned from a stay and I would recommend this Chateau. The staff was great and the facility and grounds were outstanding. We took out the row boats to paddle on the moat and had a wine and cheese snack in the evening on the patio. The rooms were comfortable and quiet. We loved our stay.

beautiful hotel buildings...only drawback is the distance to the restaurant from the main chateau.

The setting and the chateau are undeniably stunning - immaculate grounds, pleasant rooms etc but it's as though, having delivered on that part of the stay, they can't be bothered with anything else. Staff are adequately pleasant, though the most animated service we got was extracting another 44 Euros from us for 2 croissants and 2 cups of very poor coffee for breakfast. We arrived very late due to a massive Eurostar delay and phoned ahead to check that we could get a snack upon arrival. We were told that there was no bar, no food and no room service after 9:30pm. For a place this size and alleged quality, we'd honestly assume that someone could rustle up a basic sandwich and beverage. We were told we'd have to use the room minibar (5 Euros for a bottle of Coke and food options being crisps or posh Smarties). Breakfast was an unadvertised 22 Euros on top of the room rate with no option for a smaller basic continental breakfast. With no other facilities for miles, having one croissant and some stewed coffee each set us back a completely ridiculous 44 Euros. Having stayed at some of the UK's nicest hotels, we've never felt so ripped off. Coffee in the bar during the daytime was 11 Euros - not that we took up the option. We're not skinflints and certainly don't mind paying for quality, but this sort of pricing, together with the general attitude of staff made it a distinctly underwhelming experience.

We loved our three night stay here. The restaurant was excellent. We stayed in the main building which I preferred; waking up to the sound of fish splashing in the moat. Great position for visiting Versailles and Giverny although you will need a car.

Beautiful and incredible medieval castle. Like staying in a fairy-tale. However during a heat wave, be prepared for hot rooms despite the A/C

Hotel and grounds were beautiful and exceeded our expectations. Limited Restaruant menu choices but adequate. Breakfast could be improved chafing dishes eggs were cold. Pleasant staff. Hotel rooms are in remote building access by golf cart. Main building was used for a wedding party and we could not access. Signage could be improved.

Beautiful hotel. Spa and gym wonderful. Grounds spectacular. Nothing close by. Restaurant not so great - food delivered from unattached kitchen... two meals cold... one poor quality fillet steak.

The location is a place of peace and serenity. The room was spacious with a wonderful outlook to the garden setting. The restaurant food was delicious. We only stayed 2 nights, but wished we had time to stay a week at least.

The hotel and grounds are absolutely beautiful and very peaceful. The perfect get away for a couple of days. The staff were polite and attentive. We drove to Monet's garden and the palace of Versailles using this as our base.

We attended a wedding here. The hotel services were excellent, the personnel was very accommodating to our requests: they checked us early, lent us an iron, helped us print a document and booked us for dinner. The hotel restaurant service was also top notch in a relaxed atmosphere. The surroundings and facilities were beautiful. Couple of downside: cars are parked far away but the personnel help you carry the baggage in golf carts, also the room got a little hot and the AC did not work that well. Overall a good place for a secluded event or vacation.

We wanted a hotel close to the artist Monet's home, Giverny France. (worth the trip, we have been to Giverny several times) The hotel we found was the Chateau de Villiers-le-Mahieu on the internet, and were thrilled that we stayed there. If you want to stay in your very own chateau for a day or two, or more, Chateau de Villiers-le-Mahieu is your destination. Complete with moat, a truly wonderful experience. Everything inside is modern, the rooms and bathrooms are completely modernized, in a very old villa, built some 500 years ago. The grounds are breathtaking. The staff could not be more cordial and helpful. We will stay here again when in France. A wonderful experience!!

Great location and buildings. Very picturesque. The bad service started as soon as we arrived which was about midnight after a long drive and couldn't wait to get into our room. The night receptionist said we had already checked in! I was astonished and angry - how could they not check ID for a room I had already paid for on my card? It took a further person and 30 mins to sort out. Our room in the chateau had been given to someone else and we had to be put in the new building where the decor looked a bit like a premier inn. Room service breakfast the next morning was late but good portions for a continental breakfast. Service at the lounge bar was friendly but very very slow. Recommend booking any food or drink well ahead of your arrival time.

Unfortunately we stayed only one night and had no opportunity to take advantage of any of the activities offered. The setting is terrific. Even the drive way out into the Countryside to get there adds to the overall pleasant experience. While the Old Chateau is not where we stayed (I am not sure anyone actually does) it adds a scenic charm to the experience. The hotel building behind and to the side is quite nice with large well furnished rooms featuring great views. The dinner is very upscale and well done. If you are looking for a high end place to treat yourself well, the price seems justified.

The castle is stunning and we had an amazing time. If it weren't for a few kinks, it woudl be a 5/5. One note of caution: we paid Hotels.com for "Spa Access," but the hotel said that on their documents we had not purchased the spa access, and they wouldn't let us in to the spa, so our expensive fee was wasted. The castle itself is amazing: spires, a moat, magnificent grounds, winding passageways... everything you'd expect and more. Our room was huge with beautiful French decor. It came with a big TV, bathroom, minibar, and a separate entrance/mud-room area. The chateau is full of activities and free equipment: tennis, ping pong, biliards, an outdoor swimming pool, spa, bar, restaurant, golfing area, bikes, and (get this) rowboats you can take around the moat. The restaurant was fancy and delicious. In nearby Thoiry, there are restaurants, a zoo, and a castle. The surrounding countryside was beautiful. However, the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, and it cost a ton for a taxi to take us there from Paris. They had put two single beds together to make a queen-sized bed (it was still comfortable). The restaurant is the only option, and its pricey. It was hard to find things to do nearby. The staff seemed a little green, and wouldn't let us into the spa. The bikes were all broken and needed fixing (but they were free). The restaurant ran out of tables (you should make a reservation before noon). Overall, an unexpectedly enchanting, relaxing, romantic, and unique vacation.

This was a standout experience from our trip around France. The chateau and grounds are stunning, with turrets at each corner and a moat around the chateau. The staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating.

Service is just OK but the place is superb. There is no valet parking and you can't go into the hotel driveway. They have an inconvenient system where you park far away, walk 200m (a problem when it is raining) to call someone to come to the car in a golf cart and get your luggage. Other than that, the rest is enjoyable.
