The location of the hotel was very convenient, and the availability of family rooms with a bunk bed and a queen was great for our family. But by far the most impressive thing about the hotel is the owner. When our rental car, parked in one of the hotel parking spots, would not move, Mr. Ali repeatedly went out of his way to help us. He was very understanding and genuinely cared about our family’s well-being. He even offered us a room when we were stuck in Montreal waiting for our car to be towed even though we didn’t have a reservation for the extra night. We would definitely stay at Hotel Ambrose again.

I loved my stay here, it was great for somewhere you just want to sleep & will be busy majority of the time. I had a studio room and the bed was so comfy. Air conditioning worked well, no bells and whistles. Staff was super helpful & it has a lot of charm. The rooms were clean, but obviously it’s an older hotel & needs work. That was fine with me, as I said, my room was clean and everything was decent. Great location!

This is an eclectic place under new ownership - currently under gradual renovation from a tired original. Its run by a friendly family trying to modernize and create their family business. I'd say it currently has more of a budget/youth hostel feel and there was some noise form other guests and strange features like narrow up and down staircases with fraying carpet. I quite like weird places so I enjoyed my stay and interactions with the owners but this is not (currently) a place if you want a traditional hotel experience.

Inside the room was clean. Friendly staff. The carpets in the hallways and stairwells were dirty and badly need to be vacuumed (ideally the flooring would be replaced but a vacuum would help). Compared to the exorbitant price of the Sofitel down the street though, I would still stay at the place again.

The hotel was kind of a dump. The spiral staircase carpet was dirty and the stairs were steep. No coffee or any appliances in the room. If you want coffee from the cafe, it won't be ready until 8:30 at the earliest. I didn't try the pastries, but they didn't change over the 4 days we were there. Not recommended.

Old style hotel. A/C was noisy but effective. Beds were comfortable but bathroom was in need of serious upgrade. Parking was as an “experience “.

So happy Ambrose Hotel was able to accommodate us last minute when our other place fell through! It ended up for the better! Excellent location, on site parking, owners were so kind. The Rose latte in the morning was amazing. Thank you!

The property description is highly inaccurate. This is a hostel, not a standard hotel, and it lacks basic maintenance and management. The room conditions were entirely unacceptable. There were visible traces of mold and high humidity throughout the room, a strong smell of paint, and a very dirty, uncleaned AC filter. The mattress was worn down to the bed frame, and the bathroom requires major plumbing repairs. I cannot recommend staying here due to the lack of upkeep and poor property conditions.

As a solo traveler it’s an okay place to stay just to pass the night. There’s a lot of holes all over the building in the ceiling and cracked walls, I tribute that to the pass of time, still a bit off putting. Staff was helpful. I reserved a room on the 3th floor, I had to carry my suitcase up the stairs because there’s no elevator, I knew what I was getting into but just heads up if you’re carrying a very heavy bag, I’d recommend rethink. Overall, if you’re not picky about where you sleep. This place should be fine. Very well positioned w restaurants, cafes and bus stops nearby

This is a unique, boutique-like hotel that is in the middle of refurbishment. Some areas have chic fixtures, while others have rough paint jobs and half-completed electrical work. This may all sound like a less-than-stellar endorsement, but I would go back easily. We were checked-in by who I thought was the manager, who was helping the desk person with translation. He was very helpful and friendly. Only later that day did I learn that he was the owner. It was late on a Sunday and I was heading out. He was moving construction items but stopped to chat with me. He asked how everything was, and said he just purchased the hotel. He talked of the renovations he was doing and I could tell that he was seriously in love with his new hotel. His passion was so evident. The hotel layout is very disjointed and you can sense that the building has been through many different lives over the last 100 years. The location is great if you want to be near McGill while also being within a 10 minute walk of shopping and dining. I would go back easily, if not just to see how the owner is doing with his passion project.

The location is terrific and the price is good. For an overnight work-oriented stay like mine, Hotel Ambrose was just fine. It's built into several repurposed rowhouses, which is common in downtown Montreal. Like a lot of similar places, that makes for weird interior architecture. I arrived at about 8:30 p.m., after the front desk was closed, and needed a code to get into the building (check your Expedia messages for the attachment with the info for how this works). I went out again that night to find some food and again early in the morning and did not see or hear a staff member or other guest the entire time until I checked out a bit later, when there was someone working at the reception desk/café counter. The whole thing was a bit eerie. But the room was perfectly clean, the shower worked and the door locked. I was not attacked by vampires. The only thing I might have wanted that I didn't have was readier access to morning coffee.

The worst customer service i have ever encountered in my life. The room is much smaller than advertised. The bathroom toilet disgusting. When confronted he literally said if u don't like it you can leave. And proceeded to ask to leave. What an absolute filthy service. If I can report him to a bureau I will. Do not go there. Do not waste your money as they are bunch of liars.
