Nice property with a few glitches. Our top floor room got sauna-level warm without the heat being turned on because of heating system flaw that required us to keep the windows open. Our door latch handle kept dropping off onto the carpet. Fresh orange juice for breakfast! B-grade breakfast pastries. Self-serve coffee machine! Hard-boiled eggs only.

It was a good stay overall, very conveniently located, spacious room. My room location wasn't ideal - in the evening, the fare in the park outside had loud music until midnight, and in the morning I could hear everything the staff was doing in the staff room/balcony near. My room was 305, so maybe ask for a different one. It was also very cold! Luckily, there were blankets in the wardrobe.

The breakfast was fabulous…Fruits, protein, carbs. Well balanced. Delicious

Very friendly staff, plenty of great restaurants within easy walking distance. It is also within easy walking distance of the train station, but be warned the footpaths are very bumpy and not ideal for wheeled suitcases, nothing to do with the hotel, but something to note. Very comfy beds, and air conditioning to keep them cool, rooms are definitely dated and a bit rundown but kept very clean & tidy. Good little breakfast room as well.

We liked that it was close to Modena's center and it was very walkable. The hotel is a little dated but for us wasn't a problem. We enjoyed the breakfast, the beds were comfortable and room/bathroom were very clean. We'll stay here again.

DO NOT STAY HERE! The hotel is not as advertised. Dated is an understatement! Our bed was dated over 40 years ago! It is in need of major upkeep, especially for how much they are charging for a night's stay. Walls seemed dirty liked something was spilled on them. Bed is HARD, air conditioner barely worked even when maxed out, cracks everywhere, mold in bathroom, sheets are rough and scratchy, smells like cigarette smoke even though advertised as non-smoking. I think I've slept better in a sleeping bag at a campground. As an asthmatic mold, mildew and smoke are things that I cannot live with. Elevator will fit 2 people at a time if you're lucky. Staff is extremely rude and cussed us out in Italian after we raised issues. I know Spanish, and the languages are similar! I've seen other reviews that mention how wonderdul the breakfast is, but only thing wonderful was it had hot coffee. Save your money and just make a day trip to Modena or stay somewhere else. Plenty of options close to old town if you don’t want a traditional hotel room.

The bedroom looked old fashioned and could do with minor decorating. The shower was miniscule, but it was clean and comfortable. It was quiet at night and very convenient for visiting the old town. Breakfast was amazing, best hotel breakfast i have had for many years; huge choice of fruit juices and fresh orange juice to make yourself. Good choice of fresh fruit and meat and cheese. Machine coffee wasn’t great and no decaf. However good selection of teas.

)K, the only thing we really enjoyed at the Estense was the breakfast. When we arrived, we were given rooms on the fourth floor that smelled of smoke. The rugs were very dirty and laundry area doors were left open. We complained and were given new rooms on the lst floor which were much cleaner. Antonio greeted us but seemed to have little interest in making us feel welcome. The hotels Expedia rating is a 3 but I would give them a 1.
