The room felt more like a basement room you'd rent to a student than a hotel room. I wanted to spend as little time in the room as possible.

This got the job done for a reasonable price. It’s basic, without much in the way of amenities, the wifi was inconsistent, but cellular reception was fine. A microwave and mini fridge were in the room which is handy. Cafes and restaurants within walking distance.

A few small touches would make a big difference for this small hotel. Towel racks in the bathroom, a shelf or two to place toiletries, a small set of drawers to unpack clothes into. It was very bare bones. Staff were friendly and did their best to be helpful. WiFi was intermittent and ChroneCast on the TV had to be reset a couple of times.

The hotel was severely over priced. The property was in disrepair. The rooms were somewhat tidy but close inspection there was hair in the shower the floor of the bathroom. It took 5 mins for any hot water. The staff were not accommodating or particularly friendly. The tv did not work the internet was terrible. Zero parking! Hallways dark. There was a decent working fridge, microwave and air conditioner. The doors slammed very loud. Bed was terrible! I felt like I was lying on a lumpy hill. Would not recommend especially at the over £120 per night price!

The rooms are not how they appear on line. They are very barebones, in the same league as a hostel. Everything is really really cheap. This place has deteriorated over the years.

Room was ok- double beds were ok but not super comfortable. There was no heat in the room so staff had to bring in a heater and extra blankets. There was no window in the room- just a curtain to resemble a window. There is absolutely no parking for this hotel- only street parking which during the day is only 1-2 hours parking limit- ok for night parking on street. No restaurant in hotel of coffee maker in room but there was a fridge. Pub next door great for food

The inn was older and needed maintenance and new paint. The internet didn't work in my room for the four nights I stayed there, although I asked about it a few times. The room was clean although there was no daily house-keeping. The room was adjacent to a flat-roof area where there were many pigeons that made noise early in the morning. The room overlooked the back sitting area for a restaurant and there was noise in the evening, although it stopped by 10:30 pm. There was only one small dining sitting chair in the room and no desk. The TV didn't work. The microwave and beer fridge worked ok. The air conditioning worked although it was noisy. The hallways and staircases smelled and could certainly use more upkeep. I wouldn't stay there again.

There is very limited parking and you have to pay. The building is very old and there’s dusty construction stuff hanging around where the old reception would have been. The building is not accessible at all and there are many steep stairs to get to the rooms. No ice machine. Had to ask for extra pillows and towels- they would not be delivered to the room so you had to get it from the front desk. The tv would not work as it was and would not connect to the internet- there is no cable only chrome cast which is fine but you need the internet- staff would not help with this. The room itself was okay as the beds were comfortable but other than that this was an expensive backpackers style hostel. No room service.

The room was excellent. Clean and we had a corner room so we were able to see the street below. No hotel parking. We had to park on the street.

The Commons Inn is a great place to stay if you are looking solely for a home base during your travels. The room was small with a bed, fridge and desk and that was all that would fit. The front desk staff were lovely and very accommodating. Great location and easy to access.

This was by far the worst room we stayed in during our three weeks in the Maritimes. The room was in the basement, so the bottom of our window was at ground level, by the sidewalk, which meant we couldn't open the curtains because passers-by would look in. The room was about 10ft x 8ft. - just enough space for the double bed, but no other furniture. The bathroom only had a shower. We immediately pulled the sheets off the bed looking for bugs, but thankfully didn't find any. We did however find a couple of tiny dead worms and in the bathroom I'm pretty sure a cockroach came out of a crack then when back in before I could kill him. There was no free parking during daytime hours on the street and I could have paid $20/day to park in the hotel's parking lot somewhere way around the corner. The price of accommodations in Halifax is outrageous. The price we paid at this hotel was comparable to really nice hotels everywhere else in the Maritimes. I definitely DO NOT recommend this hotel. When we came back to the Halifax area at the end of our trip, we stayed in Truro one hour north and commuted. Even after the fuel consumption we saved about $100 for 3 nights and had a beautiful rest.

Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had in my life in the hospitality sector. No exaggeration! Do not go near this place! This building should be condemned. The pictures are not at all what the location looks like. I expect they were taken decades ago. The building is in a serious state of disrepair, filthy, and infested with mice. Upon arrival the front desk informed me they are undergoing “renovations”. No - common areas were demolished and covered in dirt and appeared to be that way for a very long time. We were forced to leave in the middle of the night as mice were going through our things (I have pictures). We left feeling dirty, disgusted, and exploited. When I approached the front desk to complain about the issues they would not comply with my request to refund our stay and refused to provide the managers contact information. On the wall was a business license that expired on 2020. I submitted the complaint to Expedia who contacted Commons Inn. They again refused to issue a refund. I would like to thank Expedia for taking accountability and issuing us a full refund on their behalf given the terrible service and experience. I hope to see The Commons Inn removed as a supplier on Expedia’s site so others do not get fooled by this false advertisement that is grossly over priced for the quality of service and safety issues. There were several Consumer Rights violations under the Nova Scotia Consumer Protection Act. I will be filing a formal complaint.
