The hotel is wonderful. It has been a long time since I have stayed in a Vancouver area hotel that wasn't in desperate need of a deep cleaning and some important updates. The room was clean. As well as all of the linens. The beds and pillows were on the firmer side. I did not realize the hotel had a pool when I booked it, so we did not use it, but it looked in good shape. Despite being so close to everything in the city, when the room's window was closed the room was very quiet. The only downside (outside of the hotel's control) is the construction across the street. It made navigating around and parking, tricky. They started construction noise at 8am. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by our experience at Hotel Blu and would stay again.

The check-in experience was quite poor. We arrived at around 3 pm with normal check-in being 4 pm. We were told that our room wasn't ready yet and that they would text us when it was. We went for walk around the neighborhood and did a bit of shopping before coming back at 4 pm. Since we still hadn't received the promised text we sat down in the lobby and continued to wait. After about 10 minutes I went up to the front counter to inquire how much longer it would be and was told that the room was ready. When I pointed out that nobody had texted us with that information, I was simply told that they hadn't bothered to send the text because it was after the 4pm regular check-in time. A very poor experience for a $500+ per night hotel.

The hotel is in a great location. The decor was nice and the room was very comfy. The staff was very nice and welcoming.

Paper thin walls you can hear everything from the other guests flushing toilets, to slamming doors, noisy in general.
