Right in the heart of Victoria. Easy access to just about everything. Parking was off site but free and just around the corner. Coffee creamer sucked, one of those packets of powdered cream that last forever. Coffee maker was great.

Unfortunately, our experience at Strathcona Hotel was disappointing. The bathroom was not cleaned properly when we arrived, which made a poor first impression. Throughout the night and again early in the morning, there was a lot of noise coming from the hallway, making it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. The check-in process was also much longer than it needed to be. The receptionist spent a considerable amount of time explaining that we would be responsible for paying for any damage to the room or hotel property. While I completely understand having such a policy, we had already provided a security deposit, which is the standard way hotels handle this. The lengthy explanation felt unnecessary. Overall, considering the hotel’s very basic facilities and furnishings, the check-in process and strict emphasis on potential damages felt out of proportion. I hope the hotel improves both its housekeeping and guest experience.

Air conditioning is very loud and cups for coffee so high I almost couldn't reach. Otherwise a great place to stay downtown.

This hotel was ideally located within walking distance of all amenities. The room was super clean and the receptionist very friendly.

I liked the available parking, the amenities that were provided, the AC was effective and quick to cool down the room

The hotel was ok nothing too great. The pub entrance is right by the hotel front doors so there were a lot of people smoking. The parking lot is not on site which I didn’t realize till I got there.

​For over $300 a night, we expected a comfortable stay, but instead, we were given room 100 on the first floor, which is essentially a thoroughfare (along with a handful of other rooms on the same floor) for the bar next door. Management allowed bar patrons to exit via an internal door right next to our room to use the hotel elevator and stairs, resulting in yelling and loud music keeping us awake all night. This is also a massive security issue. Front desk staff completely dismissed our complaint at checkout, claiming "oh yeah, sometimes there are concerts and after-parties." They refused to offer any sort of refund or fair compensation because we booked through Expedia, and not direct with the property. Terrible service and zero accountability.

Overall I would say that this is a serviceable no frills hotel room. The check in staff was nice the lady was friendly. The rest of the staff just acted like we bothered them if I had to ask for something or had a question. The room was so small. It doesn’t have a vent fan in the restroom so the mirrors fogged up when using the shower. The shower only has a single panel of glass so the water splashes on the floor. Parking was available and the lot is close to the hotel. Location is good and walkable.

Wonderful room however we were not aware that the restaurant/bar attached was a nighttime hotspot and it was so loud from 1:45am until almost 3am. Ear plugs in the room would have been helpful as the windows do not keep out any sound. They did provide earplugs to me when I went down to the lobby.

Upon arrival I was surprised by the offer of an upgraded room on the first floor, what I was not told by the check in clerk was that this room #103, was directly over the exit/entrance to the adjoined pub and would be noisy. Significant noise from the pubs patrons carried on until 3am ( this was a Thursday night, heaven help someone staying on a Friday or Saturday). I had to be up for meeting at 6am. Not a good night.. The check in clerk said he'd have the manager call me. The manager didn't call. Will avoid this hotel in future.

The hotel is well located being in the middle of downtown. The street outside the lobby has a 10 minute parking restriction making it easy to be dropped off or picked up. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The room was compact but very well maintained with a comfortable queen bed and good bathroom, with fridge, microwave and coffee machine. The room (219) had a split unit air-condition, but we noticed that most other rooms had window mounted units. Although we only used the aircon once, it was very quiet and efficient. Our room had no view as it looked into a blank wall. This did make the room very quiet. Again, we noticed that rooms on the other side of the corridor overlooked the roof terrace of the next door pub.
