My wise grandmother once said, you get what you pay for. With that in mind, I can't really complain about the room, except for the shower. Let's start with the positives! Very large room, olde world charm and heritage look inside and out, Staff very friendly, and the food is great. Being an innner city pub you would think the noise level would be high. On the contrary; at 10 oclock you could hear a pin drop. Very close to the beach and cafes. Old Hunter Street has a great bakery called My Baker. Brilliant.
Now the not so positives. I had five showers on my stay 3 were lukewarm at best. The rooms while large and clean are old and need of repairs or refits. The shower temperature has a lot left to be desired, but maybe I was just unlucky in my room. Chipped paint, and a very old bathroom with wood missing on the sill. It has a balcony but the venetian blinds need to be repaired.
Overall would I stay there again? possibly but I think I will be seeking an upgrade. Oh yes just be warned no lift, beautiful grand staircase to climb.
