Good room for good price, easily to walk to matlock from

The hotel is in a lovely location and we selected an upgraded room, with a huge bathtub. The room was lovely, well decorated with a comfortable bed, quality furnishings, deep pile carpet and amazing views. We appreciated the big fluffy towels and tea making facilities. Unfortunately though the cleaners let this hotel down. As soon as we headed up the stairs to our room, I noticed how filthy the carpets were, they looked like they hadn't been hoovered in weeks. I hoped the room was better... Well it wasn't much , our carpet hadn't been hoovered and the bathroom wasn't properly cleaned. The receptionist was very apologetic and showed us another room, but this was actually even more dirty... So she herself had to clean our original room before we could stay in it. But there was still toothpaste on the mirror and shelves were dirty and dusty. This place has been decorated with care and quality but nothing is more important than cleanliness. The management here, need to be monitoring and keeping on top of the cleaning staff before they ruin this hotel completely. It's a shame as you can already see stains on the beautiful carpet but if they were cleaned regularly they would stay nice, same as corners of the showers building up with dirt. I think overall it's a lovely place and would probably stay again.

The staff were very friendly and allowed a slightly early check in for no extra cost. The breakfast was good value and tasty

Great hotel for the Peak District

The room was very warm and small but adequate. Great shower. The property manger was very nice. The food in the restaurant had a diverse and unusual choices and tasted excellent. Overall the building needs some tlc as most walls and doors looked scruffy and marked. The recent restaurant additional looks very nice and smart.

Restaurant was closed in the evening. Breakfast was brought early for me. Better quality ingredients would improve the cooked breakfast.

Room was clean and parking available

I was greeted by a lovely, friendly and helpful person who began my stay brilliantly. High Tor hotel is kept as clean as it can be and everything worked in my room. The shower was powerful and hot - a welcome relief at the end of a day spent walking and exploring, and the bed linen was spotless.

Perfectly located to explore Matlock or Matlock Bath. Hotel was nice, the room was cosy and clean and the staff were very friendly. An enjoyable weekends stay.

Stay was ok, had food at restaurant, 3 of us, probably 15 mins between first meal being brought out and the third.

Great stay, location perfect for all amenities

High Tor comments: I fancy we caught the High Tor at a time when it was going thru a change period. - the grounds outside needed a gardiner - The building needed a good paint job, especially the windows (maybe replacing) - I think we were the only customers that first day, only my car in the car park! - There were staff available but except when we checked in we didn’t see anyone stationed at the reception desk - not even for checkout! - We ordered breakfast for the following morning and we arrived at the breakfast room before the cook arrived! - No one cleaned our room we made our own bed; and tea bags/milk were not replaced - Bathroom had minimal space eg no shelves for bathroom items - The second day had more people, well cars in car park - I’m not convinced anyone from the staff was on sight overnight but maybe available by phone!! Is that legal? - Menu was limited and evening meals seemed specific to Indian meals

Lovely staff. Parking available on site. Spacious room. Did not realise bath facilities were not separated but did not cause a problem! Lovely breakfast.

Good location between Matlock and Matlock Bath. Parking was fine. Definitely a basic hotel. Rooms very small. Bathroom very dusty. Tea and coffee supplies were minimal. Staff had to be called for using a bell. Nobody on reception when we arrived. We never had breakfast or dinner at the hotel (plenty of places in the town).

room was terrible we was up in the attic very small room, room wasn't very clean stains on the mattress protector carpet was stained, couldn't see out of the roof window as it was thick with green moss. I think there was only one member of staff doing everything as we didn't see anybody else no cleaners or anybody. Breakfast was poor considering we had to pay £12.99 extra for it the continental breakfast was very poor, we was the only ones in the resturant. would not be staying here again!

Room was top floor and quite stuffy. As it’s a listed building, windows were very old and the outside noise was quite loud.

Everything was good, apart from the boiler noise right above us. Kept us up, banging away constantly. And the joint in the bed was very uncomfortable.
