For the week of our wedding anniversary, we were looking forward to staying in one of the luxurious suites depicted on the hotel's website. To our disappointment, the room we were given looked nothing like those pictures. We were housed under the sloping roof of an apartment building separate from the main hotel building. The apartment was very dark. Apart from the French doors opening onto the balcony, there were only three small skylights (one of which had a note stating it could not be opened). The apartment had the feel of a cheap holiday apartment with a kitchen, and not that of a luxurious suite. The furniture was dated, the decor chipped, and the carpet marked as soon as you stepped onto it. When we discovered a cockroach walking over the fridge, we asked for a different room at reception. At first, the staff wanted us to stay in the room and wait until the next morning for someone to deal with the cockroach. That was unacceptable to us. We were given a family suite in the same building. It was an upgrade from our original room, but still looked nothing like the pictures on the hotel’s website. Mineral water, coffee and tea were not replenished. When we notified reception, we were told that this was standard policy. Our original room had no coffee and tea at all. Interestingly, our family had booked a standard double room in the same hotel for the next week. This was clearly a recently updated room and looked much better than the two suites that we had stayed in. Even more interestingly, their mineral water, coffee and tea were replenished daily.

This is a wonderful gem of a hotel. The rooms are lovely, and staff warm and inviting. The only drawback is there is NO air conditioning or fans making sleeping difficult! This could so easily be a five star hotel with this addition. Since the windows were open, nasty flies were an issue. We also found the lack of designated smoking areas was unpleasant especially in the restaurant area!

Great stay for the long weekend of the Labour Day 2026. Nice, full of light and very clean room. Amazing breakfast buffet… with great scrambled eggs and bacon. We had got the pleasure to dine in two evenings in their restaurant, too… it’s been delightful! Tks also for the amazing job done by the personnel at the lobby.

We have travelled the region for two decades, and have enjoyed dinner at the Klosterhotel Ettal several times, but never stayed at their hotel. We just did for the first time: great place! we can recommend it

If you are going to Garmischparten-Kirche or Oberammergau, staying in Ettal is the way to go. The views are outstanding and the Kloster across the street is beautiful. Even though the rooms do not have AC and the window only opens up a crack, we loved it. To be fair, we couldn’t find a hotel in the area that has AC. We stayed there at then end of May and the room cooled off by morning. Neverthess, we loved the area. The hotel and restaurant staff were so friendly and the food at the restaurant was really good.
