Charming pub with rooms. Nice bar area with outside courtyard area and good drinks range (and lovely glassware!) . Very friendly staff and rooms very well appointed with clever use of space, However didn’t sleep well as the room was way too hot and the pillows are not great. Would stay again though as the good outweighed the bad.

We have stayed here several times over the years as our daughter attended Lancaster University. This has always been our “Go To” place and has never disappointed. It is clean and tidy and has everything you need for a short visit. Our daughter has now graduated, but I am sure we will be back in the future and look forward to coming back to The Royal.

Nice clean room. The lady checking us in was delightful. The room was very hot and there was a lot of traffic noise which is fair enough as it was on main road. Disappointing there is no breakfast. They do a basket in your room with some cereal bars and prepackaged croissant This is not a hotel it’s a pub with rooms even though there was a photo of a breakfast room on the website.

We loved our stay at The Royal, right from the off the manager was really lovely helping us with parking, check in was also really simple. The room was stunning, comfortable and really well stocked! Location wise it's right on the doorstep of the city centre, the pub itself was great too loads of choice of beers, board games etc. Honestly couldn't fault it! Special thanks to the bar manager she really looked after us, we'll definitely be coming back!

The Royal has become our go to place when visiting our daughter at university. It is clean, convenient and good value for Money. We have stayed in multiple different rooms and each one has been to a really high standard. Highly recommend.

We have just returned from our one night stay 19/12 -20/12 and I just really wanted to say what an amazing hotel and bar it is , we had a mix up but decided to keep the stay and upgrade so we could bring our daughter and when I called hotels.com were so helpful and sorted it straight away. Then when we arrive the lady who checked us in was wonderful, letting us know what we needed to know as well as any other information she thought would be helpful, my daughter loved the room and how much space we had it was clean and spacious once we returned from our evening meal we asked if we could borrow a game to play from the bar and they were so generous saying take whatever you’d like, so again our little one was made up. Although it was “mad Friday” the rooms had very little noise from the bar and we were in Room 1 which was basically on top of the bar ! The breakfast basket was a great touch with something for everyone in which I did not realise we got when booking so it was great to put us on till lunch. Overall they are most definitely a 5* hotel and we are already planning on returning and will definitely be spreading the word !

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was very clean. It had a cracked ceiling, traffic noise all night so not had a good night sleep. Noise from other room above could be heard. Bathroom temperature very different to the room as it was quite cold. Parking is a pain as it’s on a first come first serve basis. I had to park far away. Good location but will no good for me.
