Very unique structure... you ring a bell and wait for host to open the door (a key code allows you to enter hotel on your own once you check in). Building is unique -- a loft-style bank / hunting lodge (yes, it is all of those things). Town has preserved much of its historic buildings, and repurposed them -- a bit of a walk to other attractions (Steampunk Museum, and blue penguin colony).

We loved this hotel so much! Its so quirky and rich in history with all the memorabilia. So much to look at! The staff were awesome and the continental breakfast perfect start to the day. We will definitely be recommending this hotel to others heading to fabulous little Oamaru!

Great one night stay at a quiet and comfortable hotel. Breakfast is delicious and lots of fresh fruit, dairy, breads, and cereal. Super convenient to the Victorian district and the harbor. Very cute town - would stay again! Bed is a little soft - only minor negative.

When we checked-in we thought wow what an amazing hotel, that’s perfect in every way. However if you’re staying more than one night, be warned that our room had no storage space for clothes and only 2 clothes hangers. There’s one chair and no table, so for 2 people this could be an issue. The bar and lounge are sealed off from 8pm to 8am, so you can’t make use of these facilities in the evening.

Loved that it wasn’t an “off the shelf” place but instead had character.

This is a lovely boutique hotel. The location was convenient to restaurants and a short drive away from the penguin encounters. The continental breakfast was good. The guest room was comfortable. The shower area had no glass enclosure or floor mats. The stone bathroom floor was quite wet after showering. This poses a safety hazard which was mentioned to the owners.

The Poshtel is truly a boutique hotel with only a handful of rooms that are all themed and unique. Rooms are a good size and very clean, but be prepared for a bit of noise (not too bad). The units fronting onto the main street have the usual traffic going by, and when we were put on the back side I thought it was a bonus - until the delivery trucks arrived to restock the grocery store, then the backup beepers started. That said, it wasn't too bad. The hotel itself and the staff (every one of them smiling and wonderful) easily made up for that tiny glitch. Breakfast in the morning was excellent. We would highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Omaru.

Woman checking me in was stellar - the lobby fun and quirky as were the rooms. Breakfast was ok, no recycling offered, no organic options. All sweet options. Room was clean and fun, mattress felt lumpy and was saggy.

The Poshtel was a very unique hotel the only problem we had was only very high windows could not see outside felt like we were in a bunker.
