This property is beautiful! The staff were helpful and friendly. We ate many meals here on the property, we were not disappointed! We explored the surrounding villages and local cuisine as well.

La Tigra was a delightful experience, but one must be prepared to be somewhat isolated. After all, this is an eco-lodge--not a resort or even a hotel. Personally, we loved the "tree fort" feel of our bungalow. Keep in mind that you are basically exposed except for thin tarps, see-through curtains and mosquito netting, so all the sounds of the rain on the tin roof and the forest are surrounding you. Nonetheless, we felt safe and slept soundly. Our bungalow had two light bulbs and one bathroom outlet. So, be prepared to feel like you're "glamping." The architecture of these structures if simply marvelous! It's obvious every effort is made to blend in to the ecology around, even down to the building materials themselves. And everything seems well maintained. But it comes with some sacrifice. You won't have WiFi in your rooms--you'll have to go to the reception area. And your hot water seems dependent on how much sun has recently heated it. Be sure to bring an umbrella, raincoat and we recommend a headlamp for exploring at night. Also, expect to feel a bit isolated. The drive down the mountain is an 8-10 minute effort. You may have to drive a few km to find a tienda or "soda." On the other hand, the food at the lodge is fantastic! If you arrive by car, consider renting an SUV with at least all-wheel drive. We had a small, front-wheel drive car. It made it, but we felt a little overpowered by the rugged terrain. Special thanks to Wendy and Keiry. :)

Staff was wonderful. Only ate breakfast but it was good. Stayed for two nights. The shower didn’t work the second night, no hot water. Grounds weren’t as beautiful as advertised and didn’t see any animals as advertised. Picked this place specifically for that reason. The room itself was clean and not as in the tree tops as the pictures on their website show but we were able to sleep with it wide open which was nice.

It’s a nice place if one wants to experience camping with the comfort of clean bathrooms, safety and still enjoy the wilderness. Good vegetarian pasta options and breakfast

Do not miss this! A night in a tree house! It sounded exotic, unique. It sure was! I wish we stayed longer!! You are given a flashlight as this is truly in the rainforrest! Each house is separate from the others, so very quiet. The hammock on the back deck fantastic. There are mosquito nettings for each bed, though we didn't see any mosquitos when we were there. Rain at night sounds heavenly on the roof. So peaceful! You have a great welcome when you arrive, and they are very helpful! And breakfast is wonderful!!! I will absolutely stay again on my next trip to Costa Rica!!!

Such a beautiful place!!! Very peaceful and quite. Delicious food, wonderful staff. I would only request that they improve the living conditions of the chickens they have, that provide the eggs for breakfast every morning. Other than that, great, awesome, wonderful experience. Would definitely recommend.

I am disappointed I was not told about the water condition. I would not have booked three nights stay if I had known this ahead of time.

There was no power and therefore no food, no light, etc. The Management is not prepare for case of emergency relying to one source only. No back up plan - generator, solar panels, wind generator, etc. Lack of power renders the facility totally inhabitable.

Stay was wonderful! Wendy went out of her way to make our stay comfortable and helped us greatly with getting reservations for Hanging Bridges tour w guide and coordinating our transportation for the tour with our transportation for our return to Atenas. The nocturnal walk was awesome - what an experience it was to see the landscaping around the lodge come alive- frogs, eggs, snakes etc! We particularly enjoyed the presentation but Adolfo about how La Tigra came to be and their conservation efforts. Planting our trees was a highlight and we were lucky spotting many different birds including toucans on our early morning walk! Food was outstanding, delicious and beautifully presented. Loved the rustic setting. The only little drawback was that it was cloudy all day and rained some so low on hot water for shower. The positives however far outweighed the negatives so we are giving it an overall 5!

Wonderful to be in the middle of a forest but conversations from neighbors on both sides of our lodging could be heard even after 10:25PM. I ended up checking the time because the conversation and occasional loud laughters from the right side of our tent kept going from the evening into the night. Their noise made it difficult to enjoy the serenity of being in the forest, and to fall asleep . Also a bit disappointed that not many wildlife seem to have been around. Without the noises that people made, the forest was relatively quiet, especially at night — no loud calls from insects, frogs, birds, etc.

The rooms are unique, with open fronts at tree canopy level. Relax, you can screen them in if you want. This really gets you to experience the sounds of the night! We went on the frog tour with Adolpho. He found us many individuals out of four species of frogs. Food was fresh, nutritious, and good by lodge standards. Yes, you’ll get beans and rice with every meal. But we also got thick homemade tortillas, salads that changed every day, and portions last seen in the U.S. Midwest. The nice thing is that their forest is new... in future years the wildlife will be more common and more diverse. As it were, we did have three parrot species, toucans, and a magnificent Rufous Motmot come to the feeders.
