We spent two very relaxing nights at the Hakone Suishoen and made great use of the private onsen in the room. We had kaiseki dinner for both nights because one of our kids was younger than 10 and was not allowed the Teppanyaki dinner.
Staff:
Overall, the staff welcomed us very warmly and also put in their effort to make our stay very enjoyable. Most of the staff could speak English as well, so it's not a problem if you don't speak Japanese.
Food:
What can I say, both the Japanese breakfast and Kaiseki dinner were top notch and were very satisfying. One minor thing I would comment on is that the food tends to get similar if you stay more than one night and choose the same type of meal. They tried to make it slightly different, though.
Onsen:
The private onsen in the room was very wide and could fit my family of four comfortably. I also went to the public onsen and used the facilities there (the sauna was very hot, and good!).
Thank you, Hakone Suishoen, for making our first ryokan experience a very wonderful one. We will definitely be coming back.
