Not recommended at all. We made a reservation which we had to cancel. The owner told us he would NOT refund our money but not to worry, that he would hold the money for another reservation. We spoke with him several times and he always said the same thing: "Don't worry, you won't lose your money." When it came time to confirm a new reservation, he told us that too much time had passed and that he wasn't going to bother looking for an old payment. This despite having told us, both by email and in person, that we wouldn't have any problems with him.
Dear Mr. Fernando, one must keep their word. Don't say yes only to stall and avoid refunding the money, and then when push comes to shove, say that it's no longer convenient for us to confirm a new date. Especially with money that you HAVE already received.

I understand your position, but you never told me you were giving me a year's notice. You always told me in writing that you would make the reservation when the time came.
And that hasn't happened. I also don't understand why you didn't refund my money at the time, as many other hotels did. I would have made the reservation again today, and we both would be happy.
It's shameful to deceive customers.
