We visited last weekend for my son’s birthday. It was extremely busy upon arrival, likely due to the good weather and several large parties booked in that day. Having visited a couple of times over the past few years with much better results, I’ve averaged my rating out, but this specific experience was disappointing from a service perspective.
The Downsides - Slow Bar Service: Despite several staff members being on duty, the bar was very slow and the queue was unorganised, with no clear order of who was being served first.
Food Delays - It took nearly an hour just to get our food order placed.
Service Confusion - When the meals arrived, staff didn't know which dishes were which. They failed to differentiate between 'light bites' and full meals of the same order, leading to some guests accidentally eating the wrong food.
Steak knives were also not offered.
As the organiser, I felt quite let down by these service failures.
To her credit, the manager was very apologetic and did everything she could to help. However, she clearly had a very inexperienced team around her who were overwhelmed by how busy it was.
The Upsides - Good Food - The food itself was of good quality and enjoyed by most of our party.
Great Facilities - It is still a very nice establishment with fantastic indoor and outdoor spaces, including an excellent outdoor play area for the kids.
Several members of our family still really enjoyed the occasion. It is a lovely pub, but they definitely need to focus on staff training to handle peak times better.
