This has been the worst hotel, if you can call hotel, I've stayed at. First of all the photos displayed are not real. The smell that comes from the bathroom pipes are so strong that the entire rooms smells like feces. There is hot water. This is our second day here and we noticed we are the only ones staying at the hotel, the rest of the rooms are empty. The food is horrible. We couldn't even drink the coffee. Over I will never come back here

Great location if you want to be in the dead center of the old town..walking distance to the Grand Plaza where you pick up the "Quito City Tour Hop-On bus." Close to restaurants and tourist shops. Sreets are steep either uphill or downhill. Taxis are cheap and easy to find right in front of the hotel. Toilet does not have shower heads and proper toilet amenities. Shower floods the toillet floor in our room. They have rooms for families with 4 beds. If you want to experience an old Ecuador mansion and how people live during the old Spanish rule, this is the hotel for you, No elevators and bedrooms are on the 2nd floor of a courtyard style hotel. Breakfast very basic. Scrambled eggs, ham and cheese. Coffee also very basic. Staff are very helpful and do everything they can.

This colonial hotel is only 2 blocks from Grand Plaza--lots happening and great local shopping and churches.

I was one of very few guests, and yet I was still given a road side room. It was incredibly noisy on the Saturday night, and would not recommend this hotel if those rooms were your only option. Even when the street noise finally dies down, you can still here the constant "chirp chirp" from the crossing lights at the street corner. Outside of the noise, this hotel was fine, and what would be expected in this price range. Its location was great for getting to the old district and the Square. Just avoid the streetside rooms!!

Aside from a perfect location this hotel was a huge disappointment in every way. From them trying to charge us more than double what was listed by Expedia on our booking, to the old stuff in the room and lobby, to the shower leaking under the tiles all over bathroom floor. Only stayed one night. Couldn't wait to get out of there.

Good old-fashioned budget hotel in historic district, good sized en suite rooms, free computer use. Hot water in mornings only. Very noisy in front rooms all night due to location. Take earplugs.

Hotel Catedral is located very close to the Plaza Independencia and convenient to all the sites in Centro Historico Quito. The hotel was secure and the free breakfast was substantial if not too creative. The staff was helpful and the water very hot! Rooms on street sign have noise from below; try to get one in the back toward courtyard. It was not a five star resort but for the price very nice. Our only problem was they wanted $60 per night whereas the Hotel.com rate we had been given (and printed out) was $34. We got into a little bit of a disagreement over this but eventually they accepted our confirmed rate. I would recommend it for budget travelers who want to be within walking distance of many churches, museums, etc.

Very good location in the Historic District. Comfortable room, but things like the door handles and ceiling fixtures were loose. Would still recommend it for the reasonable price.

The stay was pleasant, the front office was good, a confusion if hotels.com has charged the card or if i have to pay the at the hotel. However, the front office was very co-operative. Good in condition and ambiance. not comparable with luxury hotel, but a value for money

Stayed here on two legs of the same trip. Would have canceled the second stay if I could have booked an alternative on short notice. 1. Rooms are filthy. I could get over a general level of dirt and grime, but I can't get over dirty bedding, which appeared to have never been laundered. 2. Shockingly poor state of repair for a supposedly "recently renovated" hotel. In addition to holes in walls, crumbling grout, etc., on our first stay, the bathroom sink was broken, draining directly onto the bathroom floor, which leads to: 3. Totally indifferent staff. When we approached them with the bathroom problem, they refused to put us in a new room/fix the sink/adjust the bill, or make any accommodation whatsoever. Wow, hospitality! This is just one example of several I'd detail if I had the space. 4. Attempted to make us pay for the room in the middle of our stay so we wouldn't annoy them with our early checkout time -- a "broken" credit card machine was the only thing stopping that. Oh yes, and we wound up having to pay cash anyway because, in the intervening 12 hours between the "you pay now" incident and our actual checkout, they hadn't bothered to try fixing the credit card machine. I've stayed in 1 and 2-star budget hotels all over the world, so I don't think I'm making an unfair comparison when I say this is one is bad. For $60/night, I certainly expect much better. This stay was worth . . . maybe $25.

Basic room, but considering the price, was what I expected. Clean, lots of hot water, a bit noisy but most older buildings are like that. Excellent location for a visit to the old town.

The hotel was under construction while we were there but without any concern to the fact that people were still staying there. It also had a very bad odour in be back corner where we were staying. The room itself was alright, fairly clean with a nice big shower. However we just looked out over the roof. We were going to stay 2 nights but were told on our second day that he did not have our reservation for the 2nd night and there was nothing he could do because it was full. Turned out to be a good thing, we stayed at hotel eugenia instead in the la mariscal district which was 10 times nicer and $5 cheaper.

So close to Plaza Grande, where you can get the tourist double decker bus to all good tourist sites. We slept on the street side and were entertained by policeman whistles, folks coming and going to the giant mercado at the end of the block and vendors selling fruit and vegetables. The breakfast is not American standard, but does have scrambled egg, two white bread with either a thin slice of deli ham or a slice of cheese.I was slow on the draw to figure out the coffee, I will let that be a surprise for you. Great wifi.

The smell of urine coming from the toilet near the stairwell was very bad and found its way upstairs and down the hall. The door was locked during our visit so it seemed that the clerk knew there was a problem. He recommended using the toilet in the hotel's restaurant. Foreigners find this very offensive. The smell of urine was also common on the streets in the historic center, and we saw men urinating in the streets even though public toilets were nearby. While the carpeted rooms were very quiet, the carpeting needs to be vacuumed by a powerful machine to help control dust and dirt.

The hotel is quite comfortable and the staff particularly helpful. We spent 3 days here at start of our Ecuador visit, and a final night at the end: we would definitely stay here again.

If your looking for an antiseptic modern chain hotel, this is definitely not for you; if you are looking for an amazingly located, authentic slice of Quito this is most definitely the place. The property is clean, and relatively well-maintained, though much like the city itself it could use a little help here and there. That being said it has all of the basic conveniences and provides an atmosphere that bespeaks of another era.
