Great to live life on an Icelandic farm - sheepdogs were friendly and owner was more than helpful. Lovely house :)

This was, by far, the BEST place we stayed in all of Iceland on our 30-day visit where we booked 7 different hotels. We basically had the most beautiful 2-bedroom house to ourselves and the cost was unbelievably cheap. We stayed only 2 nights and if I had to do it again, I would have skipped the 3 day hotel in Akureyri and just traveled from here. Holmavad is a great place to just stay and relax and was wasted on us since we spent all day exploring. This house offers horses, sheep, and 2 friendly border collies to pet. Be careful since they will bring you things to throw so they can fetch them. Once you start, you may spend hours playing with them! Who needs to sightsee? Holmavad is located right on the Diamond Circle and is close to the following sights not to miss: Grenjaðarstaður Turf house--on UNESCO World Heritage tentative list: 4.1 km (3 min. drive or 49 min. walk) via road 845 Ystafell Transportation Museum--20.8 km (16 min drive) via Road 845 then Road 85 Husavik town: 24 km (20 min drive) via 845 to Road 85
