We stayed for the recent half marathon event and booked the Deluxe Twin Room. Check-in was impressively smooth. No hiccups, no drama. To our surprise, we were even upgraded to a Supreme Deluxe Room, which was a pleasant bonus (someone must’ve read our pre-race nerves).
The room was spacious and cozy enough for three adults, and the beds were clean and very comfortable, exactly what we needed after long travel hours (and before pounding the pavement for 21km).
Unfortunately, the bathroom experience took a wild turn. While exploring the bathroom (as one does), we discovered a hidden treasure…an underwear left behind by a previous guest, tucked underneath the toilet like a forgotten pirate’s gold. Not quite the souvenir we were hoping for.
Evening ambience? Let’s just say Bintulu got talent .. loud music echoed nearby until around 9pm. If you sleep like a rock or enjoy a pre-race concert, you’ll be fine. Light sleepers, bring earplugs or a white noise app.
Breakfast was… decent. The staff were attentive, quickly clearing empty plates, a small but thoughtful gesture that kept our table neat. However, the breakfast variety could use a boost, especially in the pastry department. And one major letdown for caffeine lovers: no coffee machine. In a 4-star hotel, we expected a button-press latte moment, not just basic brewed coffee. As a dedicated coffee enthusiast, this was a heartbreaker.
Summary:
⭐ Pros: Smooth check-in, free room upgrade, comfy and spacious room, attentive breakfast staff
⚠️ Cons: Dirty bathroom surprise, noisy evenings, limited breakfast variety, no coffee machine
Would I stay again? Possibly, but next time, I’ll bring my own espresso machine… and a flashlight for bathroom treasure hunts.
