My first night was in the lagniappe room that faces the street. Unfortunately that night got down to 46°, I was very cold. The oil radiator was faulty & dangerous. The front legs twisted under it & wouldn't stay up. Fell over while hot and I almost burned myself picking it up. Spark that outlet when plugging in. Front desk offered to put another in, double danger + no heat? No thanks. Couldn't reach the ceiling fan strings. I flipped the switch to turn it off. While it was on it was too cold. While off, the tepid heat from the radiator was not being circulated. I was in a winter tech coat with a heavy sweater underneath, a sports athletic jacket underneath and a tank top under that and was still freezing with thermal leggings on. Front desk switched it immediately, great service, poor equipment. Get a space heater. Brought my own, but no discount. Bedding was clean & the bed was made up well. Blankets are quite light. Room is drafty, not well kept up in re: aesthetic repairs, like your family member's older house that is clean but has seen quite a bit. There's noise from the hostel with people playing music, talking loudly. Guest next door wasn't snoring very loud but I heard everything. Heard footsteps above me but apparently there is no room above. (uhhh? :S) Bathroom was very clean. Only small body towel per bed. Needs extra towels or mat. Extremely slippery tile. I fell. Communal kitchen area was uncleanly. A worker was barefoot for days, was handling linens for rooms.

The Indian House is an excellent place to stay. This was my first hostel ever and i enjoyed it! I had a private room with a full bed and stayed in the Jezebel room. From the look of it, i thought the bed would be flat and feel every spring, well I though wrong. The mattress was comfortable but my only complaint slightly was the need of more pillows. The showers were efficient, just wait for the water to get warm and its a go! The shower heads are placed overtop of your head but you can make it work! There is plenty of room to store your food, open kitchen with everything you need in reference to pots pans etc. There is a sitting area with local information, where to eat, what events are happening and areas of NOLA to visit. Indian House owns a whole block with hostels and it is an old home with vintage findings but is very clean, full of history, rustic findings and staff are always in site. The staff are helpful and friendly. The pond with the alligator and bench was one of my favorites; to wake up, make English tea, have a smoke, enjoy the breeze! An excellent stay, great pricing and I will return again!!! This was a pleasure!

I liked that they had coffee and a full kitchen we could make our own meals. Very clean and surprising very safe. Could use better pillows and could provide there guess with wash cloths not just a single towel.

Great spot, neighborhood pretty good but a couple of surrounding areas not great, but trolley stop really close by, so not really a concern. Staff super helpful, local knowledge always the best. Property itself is the kind of really cool spot you come to know using hostels when travelling.

It would’ve been a nice and interesting place to stay if there was more upkeep. I also found a syringe and needle in one of the toilet stalls, also the showers were behind a screen door which exposes them to the outside which is not a pleasant experience for winter temperatures.

It was ok. We got there late, like 10pm. Staff seemed irritated and said one of my rooms was no longer available. My Uncle who can’t climb stairs was told he had to have a top bunk because his bottom was given away. He slept on the couch downstairs just to be told the next morning that his room was still available. She was like I know for sure because I prepped it. We followed her and sure enough it was ready and this was at 9am. He slept sitting up on a couch all because someone was sleepy I guess.

Had an amazing time at India House! It really was a true hostel experience, getting to talk to many travellers of different walks of life. Easy streetcar access and the neighborhood was very safe.

- getting blisters and scraping your knuckles every time someone opens your room door - not being able to turn off the fan because the ceiling is too high and the chain doesn't come down within reach, even when you climb onto the bed - no soundproofing, you can hear everything that happens in the bathroom day and night and in the next room - waiting 3 days to get an iron (some people sleep with it!) - a completely messy laundry room and old vertical drum washing machines that don't wash - people who spend hours talking, laughing and partying in the courtyard EVERY night until 3 or 4 in the morning - having to go to sleep somewhere else to be able to sleep peacefully and not be exhausted the next day...! That's what staying here is like. I rather recommend Hostel International on Canal Street instead, closer to the city center, much more respectful (and clean!) and for the same price.

Perfect budget accommodation. We were in the Green House and had the "Ocean View" room LOL (it overlooks the pool). The beds were comfortable, the AC worked fine, and it was perfectly quiet at night. Never had to wait for the toilet or shower down the hall. The shower was decent but the sink definitely needs more water pressure. Safe area, had no issues parking the car on the street. Would stay here again.

A very unique property, with a mish-mash of quirky rooms and buildings combined to make a hostel. The price is great for what you get. No concerns with cleanliness or bugs (it IS a humid environment, in the South, so I was expecting at least one or two roaches or lizards, but there were none, even outside in the courtyard/common areas). The only issue we had was our lightbulb went out one evening. The staff didn't tell us that we'd have to be present for the maintenance guy to come replace it. So, we left for dinner for the evening and came back late that night to it not being fixed yet. Had to use a flashlight we had brought i order to see in our room. The next day, we asked the same staff person when it would be fixed, and THAT'S when she told us we needed to be in our room when maintenance comes. She sent maintenance right away, and the issue was fixed (although she did not seem concerned with the lack of communication about the rule). Otherwise, it was a fabulous stay: budget-friendly and less than a block from the streetcar line into downtown. Would definitely stay again!

Very free & easy hostel. Lots of facilities including laundry. Trolley stop very close so very easy to get into N.O although the ticket machine, also close by, took a lot of patience to work out ! Don't stay there & give a bad review. Do your research first & you won't be disappointed.

Our stay at the hostel was a good experience. We felt at home and felt like Family. We enjoyed the yard and games, and the convience to uptown. Lee checked us in to our Room, and out. He was very patient, and Shell was very helpful. Will be back again
