The Fat Badger is in a great location in the city center of York. We were able to walk anywhere in town. We were also able to walk to and from the train station, though that took about 15 minutes. We arrived before we could check-in, and they were kind enough to bring our bags up to our room. However, they couldn't keep them after check-out, so we had to pay to leave them at the coffee shop across the street, as our train didn't leave until a couple of hours after check-out. Not surprisingly, the room is small, but not unreasonably so for the location in a historic building. It was a relatively narrow set of stairs to get up to the room. The bathroom was down a little hallway and was a decent size, though the shower was a bit tight. We didn't eat here, but we did have time to enjoy drinks out in their "secret garden". We were lucky enough to get some sun so that we could enjoy some time out there, with a view of the very top of the cathedral.

I stayed at The Fat Badger as a solo traveler, experiencing York for the first time. I’m so glad I chose this accommodation, not only for its cosy, relaxing atmosphere, but also its modern touches and ideal central location. There is such charm there that one can’t get from a hotel chain. I also found the staff very friendly and always ready to assist. I look forward to my next stay at The Fat Badger.

The secret garden is a great addition, but can get very busy . If staying over get a room on a lower floor , we were on the top floor , 6 flights of creaky stairs . Breakfast was good .

The room was fine, and the breakfast good. It's well situated in the centre of the old city. The only issue for a 79 year old was our room was three floors up with no lift. The staff were very helpful carrying luggage for us.

Check in process was very straightforward. However the building is currently covered in scaffolding whilst works are being carries out, so we inadvertently walked right past it on arrival as you can't see the name! It's a beautiful historic building. The bedrooms are painted in dark colours with pictures of local landmarks hanging on the walls. The bed was very comfortable however only one side had a bedside cupboard for a glass of water and there were no power sockets near the bed. The room and bathroom was nice and warm. We had to leave the bathroom blind down most of the time as there was no frosted glass in the window. Bring slippers for the wooden floor in the bedroom. We could hear the person in the room above us walking around on the very squeaky floors - but it's an old building. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice and freshly cooked to order.

Incredible stay! The room was so cute and clean. Staff were legends for hauling my heavy bag up and down the stairs for me without complaint.

Clean room, but it is an old building which inevitably presents a few challenges when being maintained. The staff we met were happy and extremely friendly, special mention to the waitress at breakfast who explained she had been there for 26 years, what a great sense of humour. The property is within half a mile of the main station, well situated, and just stone’s throw from the Minster. I would happily stay there again when I next visit York

Fat Badger is very central and close to all amenities. Shambles, York Minster, Bettys coffee shop and museums etc. Many good restaurants, pubs all nearby. It was ver clean if a little tired with regard to decor. The food was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely breakfast served by Debbie who had us in stitches. She was very professional and also very welcoming as was every member of staff. We would definitely return.

Really quaint hotel, great location and beautiful rooms with a really comfy bed! We would have absolutely loved our stay here, however there was a beer keg delivery at about 6am during our stay which sounded and felt like an earthquake, we were on the third floor and this delivery lasted for over an hour and half. I’d recommend checking with staff if a delivery is planned when you arrive as our stay would have been perfect without this but it was so loud for so long it was impossible to sleep so we had no choice but to get up and were very tired for our second day exploring York instead of feeling well rested on our Christmas break. Other than this the hotel was really lovely so it was a shame as if I could guarantee a delivery wasn’t to take place during our stay I would definitely stay again as we loved the quaint and York style pub feel of the hotel!

Great hotel, right in the heart of York, next to the Minister. Helpful friendly staff provide a great service, excellent breakfast and good selection of local hand pulled brews at the bar.
