I really enjoyed my stay at the Rio. I was fortunate enough to stay in one of their renovated rooms near the top floor, and it was incredible. The new soft bed, the room decor was fresh and the VIEW from the balcony was incredible. Breakfast on the first floor was very well displayed, and the staff at the hotel was very welcoming. Can’t forget the rooftop pool and restaurant. Make sure you check it out. I will definitely return.

El hotel destaca claramente por su ubicación frente a la playa en Copacabana, pero yo las habitaciones necesitan una renovacion total, los muebles estan viejos y deteriorados, los cuadros lamparas y cortinas se ven super antiguos.

Originally placed in an unrenovated room that was quite dingy and in need of serious love, looks like it hadn’t been touched since the 80s. Paid to upgrade into a renovated room which was much nicer. But with the upgrade fee, the value was not as attractive. Overall the renovated public areas are nice, especially the rooftop, but it’s a very large hotel and can get crowded (for example, long lines to check in and check out, with not many front desk staff even during peak hours).

The executive suite was very large and the view of copacabana beach and sugarloaf mountain was beautiful. The only issues we had was one toilet did not work for our entire stay and we had issues with our blinds. There were also lots of stains on the carpet and furniture. Some of the furniture was not in great condition, but overall the room looked generally nice. The staff were generally friendly. There was an incident while we stayed where multiple guests got trapped in one of the elevators which resulted in the fire department coming to get the people out. After that, two elevators were down for most of the remainder of our stay. We booked VIP, where you’re allowed free alcohol and water but only to be consumed in the “VIP lounge” which is simply a small couch next two the VIP check in desk. It was quite awkward to enjoy a drink next to the check in desk. And I don’t understand why we couldn’t have taken water from the VIP area, not even one bottle. The minibar was expensive. Overall I think I grossly overpaid for the executive suite with the flaws we experienced, but the hotel common areas were lovely and made my trip to Rio more enjoyable. The rooftop pool was amazing and the staff at the restaurants and bars were very nice. The vibes were great up on the roof.

The rooftop pool had wonderful views but minimal seating. The breakfast buffet was good with plenty of choices. The hotel overall definitely needs an upgrade. The first room assigned to us had mildew (mold) on the pictures and curtains. The carpet was stained. We got another room with vinyl flooring instead of carpeting and it had been painted however the walls were dusty and dirty. Great location and good staff.

While the property presents itself at a premium price point, the overall experience did not reflect that standard. The breakfast was underwhelming, the coffee was disappointing, the scrambled eggs lacked proper texture, and the pastries appeared dry and not fresh. The on-site restaurant also did not justify its pricing. Housekeeping was inconsistent. Despite two cleanings, sand from my only beach day remained on the bathroom floor until checkout, which was unexpected for a hotel in this category. That said, the staff was a highlight, professional, kind, and multilingual, making communication seamless. The view, however, was beautiful and one of the few aspects that truly stood out. Unfortunately, the overall experience did not meet expectations, and I would not choose to stay here again.

The location was amazing and the room was good. The check-in stood out as it was extremely inefficient. The process was extremely slow and we waited in line for about 30-40 minutes when there were probably 10 guests ahead of us and 4 people working the check-in desks. Other than that the pool and rooftop were amazing and the staff was very kind and helpful.
