Sabang is the biggest city yet located on a small island with a very much active volcano called the Weh Island in Northwest Sumatra. Taken after the name of an Indonesian Air Force pilot that was deceased in a plane crash on August of the year 1952, Maimun Saleh Airport is a small airport in Sabang, Weh Island. Its location is at the northern part of Sumatra of the Andaman Sea and southeast of the central city on Weh Island. With a runway length of more than one thousand feet, it is also a part of the Indonesian Navy facility. 2. Sabang Zero Kilometer Monument - The location is about 30 km away from the center of Sabang or about an hour ride through an uphill road. Locals would say that your trip is incomplete if you went to Sabang and did not visit this monument. This monument was officially launched by Try Sutrisno, the Vice President in September 1997. The trip to the monument is even memorable as visitors will obtain a certificate from visiting the monument by the Sabang City Culture and Tourism Office.
